Opinions about buying now or waiting

I'm fed up of being in rented - 15 months now and was meant to be temporary. A house has come up which looks ok and has a bit of potential for extension etc. We have been waiting 15 months for a house to come up in the catchment area which we like - they just haven't!! We are picky i.e. no main road, detached, 4 beds etc and there aren't that many of that type of house in our town, lots of semis and lots of main roads.
We are arranging a viewing - if we like it should we buy?

You're just in such a good position, you really could set yourselves up for life and if there's one thing I've learnt it's that there's always another house.
But I do wish you well and you know your circumstances better than anyone else, so good luck with it whatever you decide

Yes, there's always another house, but there's not always another life and I just need to be happy. We will be set up for life in this house, we can stay there forever. If you mean set up for life financially, I don't plan on selling the house so it doesn't matter!

Let us know how you get on!

We're thinking about taking the plunge on a property we KNOW is still Too Much but one we can afford, is in catchment and we promise we won't look at the property pages for 10 years!

The factor about there not being much out there is very true where we live. We hear about perhaps possible place per week.

Good luck

I'm renting and being fed up now, the interest in our savings is going down, but still we search really carefully. I'd only buy if it's the right house, because if it isn't and you have to sell it in the short term, you'd kick yourself

Hello everyone just an update.
We went to see the house again and really liked it. We can def be happy there and not have to sell ever ever again! So we decided to go for it. We have had an offer accepted.
Turns out the house was valued at 275 (vendor showed me EA valuation) but they decided to put it on at 250 to sell it. Well we were the first to view it (new on market) and at our second viewing they had had 6 viewings, two of which had been for a second time! We had a chat about prices whilst we were there and it was clear they wanted near asking as they had priced it cheaply.
Well our mortgage (including extras like buildings insurance and life insurance) will still be less than our rent now so we're happy with that and there's no work to do in the house.
Phew. Still not counting my chickens though. Anything could happen yet!
Thanks for all your advice!

Congratulations Wendy! That is great news. Fingers crossed for a smooth exchange and completion. Are the vendors buying something else?
