best place for an inexpensive kitchen??

we might be inheriting some money soon. not a huge amount though.
I've been saving up for a kitchen for ages and currently have £561 pmsl
anyway, we should have around another £5k to play with (hopefully)... is that enough for a kitchen?
i want something decent, but obv it isn't going to be anywhere near top of the range. My dad can fit cupboards/flooring etc so fgitting costs will be minimal.

but where is the best place to look??? am I stuck with b&q/homebase/ikea? if so which of those is best?
or can I afford something a bit better?

it isn't desperate so I can afford to wait until there are sales on and stuff too

I once had a Magnet Charleston kithcen. It was really very good.

Oh god IKEA. I've just had flamin Ikea wooden worktops fitted and they are, I fear, crap. I've oiled them every night for about a week and they are still guzzling it in. The bits round the sink are getting wet despite the oil and I am really a bit fed up.

In my last kitchen I had Howdens worktops and they were better quality (though they were going to work out about £200 more expensive for our quite small kitchen.

Our last kitchen (Howdens unit and worktops, new sink and tap, new oven and hob and hideously expensive Fired Earth tiles came in at about 6k all in, I think. So yes, you can certainly do it on a budget.

We got ours from Magnet Trade - fab - and cheaper than Howdens, which we nearly went with as they were much cheaper than most!

How do you get hold of Magnet trade DottyDot?
Is the range the same as ordinay Magnet?

DottyDot · 16/02/2009 22:16

website here

Hi - our builder recommended them - he had an account with them and in Stockport where we are, they've got a warehouse attached to the normal Magnet - basically the units are the same but without the posh finish on them (I think ). But ours is great and I think looks great for what was a teeny tiny budget.

Thanks Dotty, will check it out.
