Sinks in bedrooms - opinions/advice please

We are planning to convert our loft into a guest bedroom/study area. We already have 3 good-sized bedrooms, a family bathroom, an ensuite to the master bedroom and a cloakroom downstairs. We have decided we don't need another bathroom but DH is keen to put a sink into the room.

Now I can see this would be useful for guests not having to go down to the family bathroom to brush teeth and so on, but they are going to have to go downstairs for the loo anyway so maybe not that useful? And won't it look, well, a bit wierd?

yeah no point at all if tyhey're goign to go downstairs to use the toilet then they'll just use that for teeth etc.

bodiddly · 04/02/2009 21:11

I have never seen the point of it either if there is no loo. If you have room for a loo to then definitely a good idea!

Unless you're going the whole hog with an ensuite, then no, very bedsit tell him.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/02/2009 21:12

I wouldn't bother with just a sink.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/02/2009 21:13

Good god no. Don't do it. You'll look like a 1970s B&B.

sagacious · 04/02/2009 21:13

I had a sink in my bedroom when I was a teenager. I have a clear recollection of throwing up in it after one to many white diamonds.

Other than that they are really naff

(sorry)

cyanarasamba · 04/02/2009 21:15

Oh no and he is so keen on it - how can I let him down gently?

Show him this

Hello Mr Samba. Don't do it!

Drusilla · 04/02/2009 21:18

Tell him that drunk men pee in bedroom sinks when they cannot be arsed to go downstairs to use the toilet

BonsoirAnna · 04/02/2009 21:18

No - either put in a full shower room, preferably with a loo as well, or nothing.

Lol at MN letting him down gently....

Maybe we could put it in a cupboard...

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/02/2009 21:25

Yes, a cupboard. A big one. With a loo in it. Like a bathroom perhaps. That's where sinks go.

harpomarx · 04/02/2009 21:27

it's just that ex-mil has one and it's really handy so people like me who take ages to wash before going to bed don't clog up the bathroom .

I've never weed in it though

cyanarasamba · 04/02/2009 21:28

Sooo harpo, hi there! Come on, be brave! No-one here will bite.

(Yeah riiiiight.)

OP posts:
harpomarx · 04/02/2009 21:30

I'm not scared of them biting, cyanara - it is the mocking laughs I fear!

GivePeasAChance · 04/02/2009 21:31

I always wanted a sink in my bedroom

Reminded me of being on holiday.

In a crappy B & B

Heated · 04/02/2009 21:31

God, that's exactly what the in-room sinks were used for at uni

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/02/2009 21:32
harpomarx · 04/02/2009 21:35

hang on a minute, how could I have forgotten??

I had a sink in my bedroom when I was growing up

bloody useful, mum used to hog the bathroom in the morning, dad in shower.

Maybe the Marx family are just much cleaner than the rest of you

jasper · 04/02/2009 21:44

got them in 2 of the kids bedrooms in house we recently moved to. They are flippin great!
Kids love them for drinks of water in the night, brushing teeth and goodness knows what else.

BUT...they do look slighly naff I must admit!

hatwoman · 04/02/2009 21:52

we used to have them in two of our bedrooms - we took them out because they really limited where you could put useful stuff like beds and wardrobes. and looked weird.
