Nice colour paint needed to go with a pink carpet ?

I need to paint my landing in a lovely Farrow & Ball type classic colour and really could do with some suggestions in case there are some colours I haven't considered.

I have to work with a pink carpet that is a mid-pink and the space is quite dark. Another part of the landing is already magnolia so I don't really want to repeat that but would like to be brave and have something different.Any suggestions?

TIA

bluey-pink or orangey-pink?

hellymelly · 31/01/2009 20:39

How about middleton pink?or calamine? or setting plaster if the carpet is not a blue based pink.Elephant's breath might work too,as pale grey is lovely with pink, or one of their soft whites like white tie.(those are all f+b colours by the way)

Greens work beautifully with pink, BUT green is a very difficult colour to get right. You'd definitely need to try a couple of testers before painting everything.

Any chance you could tell us what sort of pink?

CioccolataCalda · 31/01/2009 21:25

thanks guys! Your suggestions are nice.

The pink is not a baby pink or a dark cerise pink. It really is a warm medium pink and not an orangey or peachy pink. Can't think of a comparison at the moment of course.

I have thought that a pale green would be nice (and very English country style), also considered grey and blue (even dark blue and embrace the darkness), the pinks sound lovely and would be very cosy.

Just looked on FnB website and love Elephant's Breath .

Our carpet is closest to Red Earth colour there.

Cooking Apple Green.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 21:42

I thought cooking apple green

Quite chintzy though. Maybe the odd accent of something else too.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 21:44

Brinjal or Green smoke perhaps.

southeastastra · 31/01/2009 21:46

green and pink? are you nuts

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 21:48

Possibly

But it is quite chintzy. I don't know how it would work in real life. At the end of the day with a carpet that colour neutrals are best but OP asked for something braver.

Green and pink would be braver, certainly!

CioccolataCalda · 31/01/2009 21:49

Chintzy is good!

Mary - I like your ideas. Do you think I could get away with them in a dark area? It would make it lovely and cosy I think and is the part of the landing which is just outside all the bedrooms. the other part of the landing (magnolia) gets all the light and is more spacious so it would feel as though you were going somewhere more intimate I suppose. Mmmmm.

It's an autumn coloured russety pink by the looks of things. I have a green sitting room with a dark pink sofa and it looks nice and autumnal coloured curtains.

The colours of autumn actually look lovely together.

CioccolataCalda · 31/01/2009 21:51

I know - pink and green should never be seen! I like them in a Cath Kidston kind of way.

Swedes, look very sugary on my screen. This is going to be tricky, isn't it.

Actually the beigey colour on teh Farrow & Ball title strip would work well perhaps? Slight green tinge to it too. On my screen anyway.

Swedes · 31/01/2009 21:59

I'm looking at a proper colour card - online is hopeless.

My sitting room is Zoffany's Fennel and it's totally gorgeous, I love it.

CioccolataCalda · 31/01/2009 22:01

I wondered about Bone or Archive White?

Swede - I will grab my card tomorrow and look your colour up. I can't see it online and agree that it's not the best place to look.

thanks for all your help though!
