Blind question

We have a dorma window in our attic. The windows open inwards rather than outwards which restricts the kind of curtains/blinds we can have.

The previous owner got around this problem by making their own curtains suspended on a wire. Sadly these are a) quite ugly and b) do not stop any light coming in.

What we need is a blind that moves sideways rather than up and down (or down and up).

Any ideas?

I've seen this solved using poles on a hinge, so during the day the curtains open like doors away from the window onto the walls of the recess

Or hang a long curtain from a pole fixed to the ceiling above the dormer and tuck the bottom behind a second pole on the wall below the dormer to keep it close to the sloping ceiling outside the recess.

You can also get blinds that pull up from the bottom of the window but I can't find them atm [googles frantically]

or shutters?

If it is a "Velux" window, the manufacturer can supply blinds specifically for this purpose. Try this link:

Dormers have normal vertical windows though, not skylights (eg Velux)

Thanks both. Yes, it's a normal vertical window.

I've seen the bottom up blinds online but due to the window opening inwards they would have to be placed outside the recess and as such would be enormous.

DP is v anti-shutter, sadly.

will have a look for the poles on a hinge - they sound good!
