Does anyone know roughly how much a project manager would charge?

We are looking to buy a house this year and i have my eye on one. The problem is its about 15 miles from where we currently live and we have demanding jobs (and two small boys). It needs everything doing to it. work to chimneys, dormers, windows, new kitchen, bathrooms, central heating etc etc etc. About £150k of work. We're renting at the moment so my thoughts are that we would get someone to project manage and stay in the rente dhouse until its all done. Anyone have any idea what they charge (I know it could only be a very rough idea). I need to factor it into the budget.

I would think it would be a % of the budget

10-20% of budget.

15% of whole budget is a good average. But they can save you loads aswell

15% of total budget. Where do you live?
Might it be better to take on a responsible main contractor who will be in charge of all the different trades? I have found this a much better way to go.

Thanks everyone that's helpful. We live in the east midlands. 10-20 percent is affordable and would save us a lot of hassle and travelling to and fro every day!

fishnet.....you also have to decide what is important to you Cost, quality or time/delivery, as you cant have all of them without compromising one. Make sure your project manager understands this and reports to you regularly on all 3.

they have to be accountable and cant expect to scoop up 15% of the budget (possibly increasing budget ) if the budget program or qualtiy of the work goes out of the window.

I work as a project manager and find quite often the client doesnt quite know what they want, make sure your project manager goes through everything he will deliver for you before he starts, and get it in writing . good luck, hope your vendor drops the price
