Yes, I had it in my old house with cream tiles (and it looked lovely ). Even if you are really very keen on cleaning, white grout looks pretty grotty in a kitchen quite quickly. I also think white needs breaking up so it doesn't look too clinical - IMO, white tiles and white grout might look a teeny bit like a morgue...

it soudns a bit pizza express to me

SniffyHock · 24/01/2009 17:05

I don't have any tiles in my kitchen - do you need them?

CountessDracula · 24/01/2009 17:06

no me neither
i don't really like tiles

ProfRichardDawkins · 24/01/2009 19:50

LOL at Pizza Express. Lots of people did coloured grout in the 80s.

RiaParkinson · 24/01/2009 20:51

well the update is that i went to fired earth to buy said tiles
I asked the women whether or not people used grey grout etc and initially met with a bit of eyebrow raising and almost smirking....

then one woman had a think and took me to a display where the inverse was shown...grey/oil coloured tiles with - white grout on one wall and grey on the other ( inverse look to the one i am aiming for but interesting nonetheless

well.......the result is amazingly different - a PROFOUNDLY different look is obtained with different coloured grout

so we came home and over a bottle of wine ( or two! ) dp and i perused the fired earth publicaions which show white and grey and mottled coloured tiles with 'yes you got it' varied coloured grouts

i am tempted to nip back in and show them their own brochure!

I've got white oblong bricks and grey grout...I love it. (in utility room)

RiaParkinson · 24/01/2009 21:00

mrs maidamess thankyou so much!!!!

In fired earth they went EVEN MORE snooty when i questioned them about staining matt tiles

literally turned their noses up at the suggestion ......

you will probably have the option of dark and light grey grout.
the light grey will probably be more subtle.

sounds good. good luck.

RiaParkinson · 24/01/2009 21:11

thanks dragon

aga will be pewter which is almost black so do you think lighter grey grout?

OP posts:
DragonLowFatSpread · 24/01/2009 21:16

i don't know really.
also bear in mind that when the grout is wet it looks much darker than it's final colour. it will dry lighter. (unless you use black)

mrsmaidamess · 24/01/2009 21:18

I would go darker. Less likely to show fat splashes or get stained.

RiaParkinson · 24/01/2009 21:18

yes good thinking

OOhh feels good to make a decision when you have a lot to make!

bit late to the party here , but just to say we had matt white tiles and dark grey grout in our bathroom. it was beautiful, never got visibly dirty/mouldy, and drew many admiring gasps. copied from a very tasteful architect friend of dh's. on the floor we had mouse colour rubber flooring, from the london rubber flooring company. gorgeous combo. i want what you're having in my kitchen...but it's about 2 years off yet. word of warning - we got (in the opinion of my builder) cheapo tiles and many of them had hairline cracks which were invisible when you set the tile but showed up when they did the grouting - because it was dark. so they replaced a few, but had to leave one or two that they anticipated would cause too much mess to remove. it looked as though someone had drawn a pencil mark across the offending tiles. no biggy.

mrsmaidamess · 25/01/2009 11:30

Mmm, mouse coloured rubber flooring. Divine!

noddyholder · 25/01/2009 11:35

We have brick effect red tiles with a stone/grey grout and they look lovely.the tiles are matt and quite big 50x20cm i think and are really easy to look after.
