Tiles - how do you finish off waist-high tiling in a bathroom? I want brick-shaped tiles but want good finish...

Sorry - I don't know the jargon for this.

I'm getting brick-shaped tiles in my bathroom, and on one wall they will finish around waist height. Pilkingtons do a good range of tile, but I want a thin bit of 'beading' tile to finish - don't know what they're called. I don't like the plastic tile trims I've seen. Is there a range of tiles that does matching quarter-curve (is this a quadrant tile? - god knows)that will look good.

Or can someone just tell me that brick tiles look great without a trim of any sort running along the top.

My builder wants to finish it with a pine strip of dado. Nooooooo!!!!

thanks top tilers,

Poppy

hi i am theboobs DH and i'm a tiler
if you dont like the plastic tile trims you have seen, why not try the metal chrome finished ones they are more exspensive but an all round classier finish. However if you dont want trim as long as your tiler puts a neat grout bead along the top they should look fine without trim hope this helps

Can you tile up to the ceiling instead?
This avoids your problem and looks neater/sleeker IMO than tiles ending half way up the wall.

we have no trim on our tiling the chap who did them was brilliant and it looks great without anything.. we had bought some trim to put on but took it back because we didn't use it.

Great - thank you theboob's DH and Pannacotta and BythePower - very kind of you to respond.

Will look at metal finished trims.

But you've got me thinking, Pannacotta, that it's not going to cost me much more in tiles that doing up to the ceiling...so that's perhaps the way forward.

best wishes,

Poppy

is it possible to gently suggest laying them vertically to avoid the public toilet look without horribly offending those who have them horizontal?

We have the 'brick' type laid horizontally - used a banding of black and white floor to ceiling and inserted a 'twisted effect' chrome tile - very classy. All the exposed edges use chrome trim so it does all look very classy (maybe its a bit public loo but there are some real wow styles public loos that have preservation orders on them) - went for a more art deco style of suite. Think floor to ceiling looks good. Wood (geddit) not do panelling above - maybe a nice paint above - you can get 'dado' style tiles too. Look in a more specialised tile shop, although places like B&Q do good ranges too.
