Does anyone mind if I PAINT my antique furniture?

I have a rather fab old oak bookcase, the sort you might find in an old posh school or perhaps a church. It is solid wood, so is Big and Brown. I want to paint it with Farrow and Ball paint, am thinking Cornforth White; a nice soft grey - which is trendy is it not?

I thought I could paint it, sand a bit to distress, then wax it (have seen items described on Ebay where they say they do this so thought I would try it).

I also have a Victorian chest of drawers which I thought I would do as well. Hmm, using maybe Farrow's Cream.

Does this sound ok, or total carnage? Do not want to cock up all my furniture!

Ooo, that sounds like fun! What are these items called? I'd like to find some, too.

ha ha expat, type in Bookcase/ chair/ cupboard and then 'Shabby chic' - all the painted stuff trots along!

i have a few items of furniture i need to do this to whilst we're still in this house with its massive gardens.

Well it's your furniture but I'd call it carnage!
Will lower its value too.

Seriously, don't wreck your stuff for the sake of a fleeting trend.

if you're planning to keep it, well, furniture is for enjoying.
