Hi I am moving to the York area soon and not sure where is the best area to move to on a small budget. Does anyone have any advice as to which are the nice residential areas with plenty of grassy area for our springer to enjoy.

Thank you for your help and advice.

Have you tried posting in MN local for York? You may get some responses from people who live there now?

LottieF · 17/01/2009 20:26

i used to live in york and it's lovely -south bank is nice, as is fulford and both are close to the millenium park with nice green areas. avoid tang hall like the plague

bellavita · 18/01/2009 09:39

Hello, I live in a village just on the outskirts of York (about 7 miles to the Town Centre) called Wilberfoss, tis lovely!

Andthentherewerethree · 18/01/2009 09:50

as well as avoiding tang hall you might want to avoid clifton. although this can be confusing as there are some newer builds in clifton that are apparently nice, but the older part of clifton is a huge council estate and although my in laws live there i wouldn;t move there if you paid me to.

when we lived in york we lived on heworth green whihc is nice, 5 minute walk to city centre, lovely old house, big rooms, nice sized garden.

the only downside to york is that every nice area is just one street away from a not so good area. but i loved living in york and would def go back if the opportunity arose.

some of the villages on the outskirts are nice, like poppleton, fulford etc.

Thank you all for your help. Im pretty scared to move to a new area and have no idea about the area so it is always nice to hear from people who live/lived there and have valuable advice.
Also I am a nanny, is there any good agencies around York for possible work for when I move?
Tanks again.

I live just outside York, and would agree with the others.
Fulford is nice, and on the north side so are Haxby, Strensall, most bits of Poppleton, particularly if you need the space for a springer!
They can also be a bit cheaper than the centre of York.
What sort of size house are you looking for?

LottieF · 31/01/2009 17:10

We are looking for a house with 2 beds or possibly more. Budget is from £160,000 to £180,000 so a bit tight I'm afraid. Also looking at Harrogate if York isn't possible.

If you're happy to move into East Yorkshire instead of around York itself you should be able to easily pick up a two bedroomed house for that budget. In fact, you'd probably get a three bedroomed in a really nice area for that sort of price.

I would think Harrogate would be more expensive than York, tbh.

SSSsssssquonk · 31/01/2009 17:13

(btw... East Yorks really close to York itself. I am really far into E. Yorks and still only half an hour away from York.

andyrobo237 · 01/02/2009 13:14

My friend lives in Wilbeross (and no I checked it is not bellavita!!). It is lovely there and not too far into the centre. Lots of open space!

LottieF · 10/02/2009 19:48

Hi. Hadn't thought about living outside York as i really don't know the area. In East Yorkshire which are the nicer areas as this will be my only house that I buy as I won't be able to afford it again!!
