Should we accept a lowish offer on my late father's bungalow?

Just wondered what other people would do. Dad died in August and we've had the bungalow on the market since autumn; it's one you'd need to do up but in v nice location. We started out asking £162,000, have dropped it to £152,000, and have had an offer of £130,000.

I'm inclined to take the money and run. But if the market picks up a lot in the spring, obviously I'll be kicking myself. There are other issues, like we want to be shot of it, no more hassles once it's gone, etc.

What would you do?

Actually, would you expect the executors to consult/pay regard to the beneficiaries on this? Would you expect them to balance their views? Or would you see it as entirely up to the business sense of the executors, regardless of what the beneficiaries might want?

Hi, we just bought a house from someone in the same situation as you. She did drop her price and we were thrilled. From the buyers point of view, we couldn't afford to pay more than we did because of the whole mortgage thing - we barely had the 75% of the surveyed value. I know it must be frustrating to the seller to get £30K less than last year (we're in Scotland where the market hasn't dropped quite as much), but we don't feel we got a bargain (we accepted a lot less on our house than it would have sold for the year before), just paid market value. I'm so thrilled to be moving....

Congratulations, aberdeenhiker! I'll be happy for someone else to benefit as well, so would my dad have been. And we might lose even more money on it if we hold on to it out of pure greed.

I think that's a good offer. You'll need to probably pay full council tax on it after 6 months as well.

Well, surprisingly we got another offer from someone else of £137,000! And that is their first offer, so we will see if they'll go up a tiny bit. There has been a flurry of interest because we dropped the price. Hooray! STill want to get it sold asap, though.
