you must be able to. i am in SE and paid 170k for a 3bed house with erm, hardly any garden.

so up northerly you MUST be able to.

any particular areas you are after? i guess finding somewhere with the land is the difficult bit

sagacious · 27/11/2008 19:18

good luck !

duckyfuzz · 27/11/2008 19:22

I don't care if it's a run down bungalow but I neeeeeeed land! I could cry, we looked at a house on the Northern Ireland/Eire border with 3 acres for £50,000 a few years back but bought a bloomin' appartment in Bulgaria instead. We being my mum really. But I would have pinched the house in Ireland off her now!

Stay at home mum - me, I mean poor DH! He can probably get re-located easily, it's just the wage difference. We are near London now so he gets London wages. I have text him at work to get looking I have looked on the map - it's soooo north! DO they have accents up there?

I bet you could in Somerset

register with some agents

Lauriefairycake · 27/11/2008 19:36

You could go to the fens, we looked there in the summer

there are banjoes playing mind

duckyfuzz · 27/11/2008 19:37

I'm a relocated southerner and I can just about understand them I've been up here 13 years though - lower wages compensated by lack of traffic and lower property prices

mrspnut · 27/11/2008 19:51

Try Lincolnshire, it's mostly rural and still fairly cheap so you may get lucky. If you live fairly close to Newark then commuting to London is still a possibility. Train is direct to Kings Cross in 1hr 15m.

My OH does the commute a few days a week and whilst it is a long day, it's better than us having to live in the very expensive bit of countryside just outside London.

Righty-o looking in Somerset now. Where is the Fens? There is no way he could/would commute - his job is easily relocated but obviously at a loss i'd say. He already commutes 30 miles, so 60 miles a day and that is about the max he would do now.

look near bridgwater or north of Taunton

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/11/2008 20:00

You want to try Wales you do. They have accents AND a whole different language in certain parts!

I'll bet you can get something to fit the bill in South Wales somewhere.

SomebodyandNobody · 27/11/2008 20:20

do they have accents doesn't = are they a bunch of bastards. It was a mild joke.

Hmm, struggling for you on rightmove I'm afraid. Saw some very big gardens, but I don't think any of them would be your requested "few acres"

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 27/11/2008 20:28

Try the south Wales valleys. You won't be able to understand a word they say but I bet you culd get a good size house with land (albeit a slag heap perhaps!) for less than 200k
