So, tell me how much a Howdens kitchen is?

After much perusing I think I have found the kitchen I would like from Howdens, but there are no prices on the website I guess so that the fitter can build his costs into the overall quote.

I may have found a fitter who'll do mates rates so would like to know if anyone could give me a rough guide for what we need before I start talking to the fitter.

The kitchen isn't going to be huge - the spec is as follows:

Base units:
two corner units,
one sink unit,
one large pan drawer,
single cupboard
larder cupboard

2 double wall cupboards
1 single wall cupboard.

Thanks

seriously, phone them on monday and ask them for a quote.
your fitter may be able to get a better quote if he has an account, but might not pass on all the discount.

moshie · 15/11/2008 23:00

they won't give you a quote, they'll only give it to your fitter, it's the way they work. They are very reasonable though, but don't break down the prices like b&q or wickes, for example

Dragonbutter · 15/11/2008 23:02

i got a quote from howdens, but was an account.

We've just had a Howdens kitchen fitted. They would only give the quote to our builder and each item was broken down. The price was listed as "full price" and then with 50% and 75% off, so the builder could choose how much of a discount to pass onto us.

Our builder took the envelope and without opening it, gave it to us, so we had a 75% discount off the list price, although I am fairly cynical about how real the discount is.

We were quoted for appliances, but even with the discount of 25% (the maximum discount for Howdens appliances) it wasn't a good price in comparison to our local electrical dealer. They were more than happy for us to buy our appliances elsewhere.

We probably had what I would describe as a standard kitchen, although we also had several units built around and on top of an American fridge freezer, which was probably the most expensive part of the kitchen. It came to just under £5k altogether, and we are very happy with it. I would say we have more units than you've listed.

What kitchen do you like? If it is the same one as us I may even be able to find the exact quote with the various prices.

Thanks - I think I might go for either howarth white option 2 or the burford

we're looking at the burford too. The other one has all those open front cupborads in the picture and it put me off. Why would anyone want to look at their plates n stuff?

llareggub · 16/11/2008 10:17

Sorry, we bought from the contemporary collection so can't help price wise. I do like your choice, but it wouldn't have suited our house. My friend has the Howarth, it looks lovely.

Without wanting to sound depressing - if you're getting a Howden's kitchen then please get a brilliant fitter! They're not too good at taking stresses and strains. DP is a carpenter and on his 5th Howdens repair this year and he's always bemoaning how they're not particularly robust and don't survive poor fitting too well.

They do look fab though

I had a Howdens 'Greenwich White' kitchen fitted 2 years ago. No problems whatsoever.

Bit hard to know exactly what units I have, as I don't have an itemised list.

Wallcupbopards:
Single
Hob Extractor
Single+Half
Double
Single+Half

Floor cupboards:
Sink unit
Half
Double

Appliances:
Electric Ceramic Hob
Diplomat Dishwasher
OverHob Extractor fan

Came in at £5,500 including fitting, electrics and plumbing.

I would expect 5K inc VAT is probably going to be your ballpark amount, though as you will get mates rates for fitting it could be quite a bit less, as labour wise mine took two blokes about a week to fit.

dragonseye · 16/11/2008 11:16

we've got the burford range from howdens. priced through our builders (who we just had to trust hadnt added onto the price)

roughly the same as you but also a wooden worktop. £2000.

dragonseye · 16/11/2008 11:17

thats not including fitting btw.

MissisBoot · 16/11/2008 22:05

Just phone and ask...they say trade only but it is very loose, and will apply to anyone 'developing' a property, even on a one-off basis, which is a category most people fit into with their own homes. Give them a list of what you need and they'll give you a price.

I asked three different branches of Howdens last week, and as they are all independent each one gave me a better price than the last.

Oops, just realised this is a VERY old thread!
