When you do an undercoat how long do you leave it to dry for?

basically I am painting a door for dh but have done it and it looks shit
any chance of doing another coat beofre he gets home?

If you lightly touch it and it feels dry not sticky, should be ok to do another undercoat. Works for me anyway! In what way is it looking shit? Were you able to sand it down a bit first to give the paint something to grip to?

yes I sanded it down but I couldn't find roller so did it with a brush and it looks all patchy,

Hi, sorry for delay, at work (ahem). Try another coat of undercoat. 2 or even 3 thin layers are better than one thick one so it might take another go before the patches disappear. IME it's much better to spend time getting a decent undercoat on, then just have to do 1 gloss topcoat, than going for the gloss too early and having to gloss-on-gloss if the patches show through. Gloss takes ages to dry properly (and stinks!). Good luck!
