Which flooring with new oak kitchen?

I was planning on going for laminate in oak but I'm not sure as that might just be too much oak in one place. The worktops will be off-white stone. It's qyite a big kitchen and can be a bit dark in the mornings.
Any ideas? I like the look of rubber but it might be too expensive. Our budget for the floor is as little as possible.

Now my theory with kitchens is that the floor should be similar to the work tops. Could you do off white tiles or something? Or a vinyl if tiles are a bit too cold?

Yes, I'm thinking vinyl might be the way to go. We've had tiles before and they were a bit of a pain tbh.

hmm, yes, we're thinking that too. I've had "wood" vinyl before - got it int eh bathroom and looks good.

Any more ideas?

Ceramic tiles in a light fake limestone colour?

GrapefruitMoon · 25/10/2008 14:38

Yes tiles to match the worktop - either ceramic or something like Amtico?

we have dorset red quarry tiles. Apparently commercial kitchens use them as they are robust... Looks good

Have you looked at floorsandtiles web site?

MrsBadger · 25/10/2008 14:54

stone-look vinyl

we have limestone-tile look in the current kitchen and granite-look (with no joins so just speckeld all over) in the new bathroom

the trick is to buy one of the more expensive vinyls with a really matte surface - the cheap ones are shiny and look crap.

Thanks for the ideas.
Ilovemydog, are quarry tiles expensive? And are they cold under foot.

think we paid about 16.00 a square meter at floorsandtiles.co.uk.
They are ceramic tiles, so aren't that cold, but obviously not as warm as carpet...

I have soapstone Karndean.
