I have wooden blinds in my house, but with energy bills going up, I need to put curtains up in the kitchen. I have 2x4ft windows and a small 2ft window, 54in drop. I can't find any that aren't checks.. My kitchen is a stone colour with a chocolate brown feature wall. Can you find any that will look good? Thanks

Curtains???? In a kitchen???

NO no no NO NO!

sparkybabe · 19/10/2008 20:02

Hey your name is a bit like mine!

SparklyGothKat · 19/10/2008 20:03

that was my thought too, but being an end house, it gets cold in there.

ok how can I stop the kitchen being cold without curtains? (coz I really don't want them in there)

Shut the kitchen door? I have a big kitchen, all stone and hard surfaces, but inttead of heating the expanse, I shut the door to the rest ofthe house.

I'm with the 'no curtains in the kitchen' vibe. sorry, its a stinker, you will be forever cleaning them.

(do I have to name change to 'sparkysandy4' ??? to join in?)

SparklyGothKat · 19/10/2008 20:47

lol, I do keep the door closed, have curtains everywhere else but have wooden blinds too, including the kitchen.

if you do get them easier to get unlined that byou can wash

but then i have nothing in the kitchen

just a cold house

MarkStretch · 19/10/2008 20:56

I just put up a roller blind in mine. Makes it feel cosier even though the heat it keeps in is probably minimal.

sparkybabe · 19/10/2008 20:57

I dont have anything at the window (actually do have roller blinds for the 'sun' - but i think that is a myth) and as I say, a cold kitchen. Do you have double glazing?

Sandy - sparky or sparkly? It matters.

sandy4 · 19/10/2008 21:05

I want to be a sparkly sparky, who wouldn't?

sandy4 · 19/10/2008 21:19

Oh, sparkly. I know this is a curtains thread, but blinds are quicker to close than curtains. Which I have found very handy - if having a shag in the kitchen . It's good to be practical ??

Flum · 19/10/2008 21:23

Nothing wrong with having curtains in a kitchen it is nice. They must be interlined though if you really want them to help with the heat issue.

Have a look in B & Q

Thought about thermal linings? Buy the curtains you want and then buy separate thermal linings and attach with curtain hooks. If necessary tack up the bottoms to the correct length.. I don't have curtains in my kitchen but I do this for many other rooms. Also good for kids rooms in the summer .. nearly blackout.

SparklyGothKat · 19/10/2008 21:42

The kids have blackout curtains, and Callum's room has a blackout blind too (at back of the house) the rest have wooden blinds. I have just put my thick curtains up in my room, living room has thick curtains, but what does everyone have on their front door? I have nothing and I like it, but with my energy bills going through the roof, I need to converse some heat in the house...

I think we should all move to barbados.

BlindsGirl · 30/10/2008 18:12

You can buy draught proofing strips from all major hardware stores to fit to your window, to help keep the heat in.

A different type of blind would work better at keeping the heat in for example a roller blind as mentioned above or a roman blind.

Hope this helps

You can use the following types of thermal curtains to replace rem cuon or rem vai

Beebumble2 · 07/07/2021 12:22

Curtains2go, part of Blinds2Go will make lined curtains from a wide range of fabric.
We’ve always used Blinds2Go, fantastic service and quality, so I suspect the curtains will be the same.
