Does paint always need a second coat ??

I painted the living room walls this morning and was expecting to have to give them a second coat this afternoon, but it doesn't look as though I need one.

Shall I do it anyway, or just leave it ??

I'd leave it, no point if it doesn't need it.

Normally, yes. The paint in here looked ok then suddenly you see white everywhere! Better to do it while all the brushes/rollers are out.

what was it going on top of? If it was a similar colour and clean then I wouldn't bother, but look at it on a bright day.

I think a second coat always looks better and evens things out - putting on one coat may show up more when the light is brighter. Second coat makes it harder to scuff as well.

It was Taupe (basically cream) going on top of cream linning paper.

I did do a second coat in the end, as I knew if I got up in the morning and suddenly realised it needed one, I'd be very pissed off with myself.
