I'm asking for opinions. Our lounge and kitchen/diner is open plan. Lounge is painted linnet white and I wanted to paint kitchen cupboards indian white and wall regency grey. Would this look cold and grim?? Can anybody recommend nice combination that would help make kitchen/diner warm and inviting but not too dark compared to the lounge?? We also don't get much natural light as boy rooms are basement. HELP! I don't mind if it's not dulux colour. HELP WITH COLOURS light enough but warm and inviting...

I'm going for a duck egg blue and brown to introduce a bit of warmth, grey's can be very harsh.

hmmm that sounds good. I really would love brown..but I'm scared that it would make the place a bit dark and compared to linnet white lounge....!! Or would contrasting look work in open plan...it has kind of square archway between the lounge and the kitchen. anybody else..??

have you looked at the dulux recommendshere

I would go for salisbury stones 6 on the kitchen cupboards and 3 on the walls. You can fiddle with the lights to change the atmosphere. At night in open plan you don't want the kitchen all glary anyway. We had open plan kitchen diner/living room all white and it was too much tbh.

IMO the square archway thingy invites a change of colour but not too dramatic or it could look a bit piecemeal rather than one space.

Thank you very much. I haven't considered that colour...I secretly wanted string from Farrow and Ball and it looks similar to salisbury stones actually.. hmm yummy. Ideas are forming now. thanks for the input!

I like egyptian cotton......but it might be to grey (I also use it in a dark room)

hmmm. I guess light brown would be okay in a dark room if the lighting is right...but our kitchen lighting is basically one in the middle of room

it's just that I have been against all forms or yellows and browns as I hate magnolia colour...with passion...

lights under kitchen cabinets? Directional spots on kitchen light fitting. Rip it out and put halogen spots in with two dimmers maybve.

We've just decorated a large extension. The kitchen part in Linnet white (in original house) and large dining area cum family room forming an L shape off the kitchen with those sliding glass doors to garden (extension part) in cornish clay (greenish with grey not yellow undertone from dulux) , like yours the kitchen part is slightly separated from the extension in our case by RSJs creating different ceiling heights inviting two colours to "define the spaces" and the two together look completely fab.

I've used Bleached Lichen 3 in a north-facing living room and it's a lovely warm stone/grey - not at all cold. In my kitchen (which is quite dark) the cupboards are F&B New White (which is a cream really) and the walls are Dulex Grey Steel 3 which is a very pale "true" grey

I have white units, grey tiles and pale fuschia walls and it is stunning.
