made your own headboard?!!

I will be buying a Divan bed shortly, one of those very expensive memory foam mattress to boot! I canne wait!

Anyways the headboard I have my eye on is in excess of £500 pounds, which is nearly as much as the bloomin bed!

So I've decided to get my own rounded edges mdf, foam, fabric and staple gun and make it myself, not so much a question here but a request for tips should incase anyone else has done the same?

I promise not to feel like a penny pinching petra if no-one replies! /

Thanks

Going to watch this too. We had similar idea but no idea where to start. Didn't want it to look like a dogs dinner after spending MASSES on matching fabric!

I did this and was very happy with the results - and the money saving!!

A couple of tips: glue the foam to the board first, otherwise it will slip when you put it up. Get someone to help you as you will need to pull the fabric tight and staple with more than one pair of hands. Also make sure that you dont pull the fabric to tight so that it stretches and skews the pattern. Think about how you are going to fold the corners and practice it, so that you do them all the same. Think about how you are going to fix it to the bed/wall and screw holes for this before you put the foam on.

I think that's about it! Good luck!

thanks ever so much!

did you sue any particular type of foam or just the very usual yellow stuff?

Nothing special foam-wise. I used normal MDF as well, never heard of rounded edges stuff!

ah! I read somewhere that rounded edges were better and that if i asked sweetly they would both cut and round at the time of purchase..

if anyone knows how to 'button' fabric or where i could buy some that too would be delightful

i quite fancy this one:

You can button it but you will need holes in the mdf

CoolYourJets · 27/09/2008 23:05

you need cover buttons
here

Nice headboard.

i recovered my very old horrid brown headboard with nice fabric...

it really was very very easy... fabric from fabric land (it was a remenant bit in a bag of fabric remenanr, whole bag of fabric for £3 and the perfect bit and perfect colour ) and a staple gun from the pound shop...

perhaps it might be easier to buy a head board with an ugly cover from a charity shop and re-cover it?
