What colour carpet do you have on your stairs and landing?

Having loads of building work done at the moment, and plan to replace carpet (only carpet in house except nursery) afterwards. Currently have bog standard pale beige one, but it has looked minging for years. Not sure if a darker colour is a good idea or not, as don't want to make area dark (will go right from ground floor to second floor room), so currently flitting between beige again, chocolate brown, or pale green.

What do you have, and how do you keep it looking clean/stain free (or don't you?!)?

Mine is brown.

We have a cream one-hasn't been too bad as it was shoes off policy and we can put bleach on it. But then we got cats and as kittens they have ripped alotsome of it up so need to get a new one. We are getting dark brown, we have that in our lounge with a big cream shaggy rug...it looks stunning!

i know what you mean about making it look darker but if you have light coloured walls it should be fine. You could always get some runners in a lighter colour too!

Ah just realised that my link doesn't take you to the colour stripe that we like - it's the mississippiblackcoffee (RHS, middle row).

Yes, someone local. Love Your Flooring in H. They were very good, imo. Fitted the carpet about a week after we ordered, very professional and friendly. Didn't mind ds1 getting in the way or running off with tools. We had them back shortly afterwards to do laminate downstairs too.

Can't remember what it was made of exactly. May have wool in there somewhere, if not 100% wool. It was £23.99 per square metre.

It looks lovely. but I have a big glass door at the bottom, and wooden floor in the hall.

Will have to check them out. Have been looking mostly in WGC. We're getting some other flooring done too (dd's new bedroom, plus hallway - not sure yet what in), so would be good if we could get one place to do the lot.

I used Allied Carpets in stevenage, they came one day to measure up, then I went straight over to Stevenage and ordered carpets, they came 2 days later to fit them. If you can see the older man there, he gives discounts

All of those stripy ones re nice, however mine is simply FABULOUS

TBH you cannot get my carpet, I use to work for interiors magazines and my carpet came direct from the manufacturer. Basically it was made when they were testing a new loom, so it simply used up whatever colours were in teh mill. Someof the stripes are 3" wide and some are narrow, there is no pattern to it, just totally random.

BUT I have just bought another stripy carpet for my bedroom which echos it, in creams, browns and beiges - bit like the Missippi coffee and cream one.

They seem to hide the dirt well for some reason and look funky and fun, not boring

NorbertDentressangle · 23/09/2008 20:32

If you like the idea of striped runners look here

The have some gorgeous ones. Its just down the road from me.

WendyWeber · 23/09/2008 20:38

We have a dead straight staircase, but at the top there is a single stair at right angles up to the landing, which then runs back parallel to the stairs.

It's a complete bugger to carpet

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/09/2008 12:27

Oh I've always loved the Roger Oates ones, but sadly runners not an option here.

Is it sad to be so excited that I've just found a local retailer that has the full colour range of the mississippi in stock that I can go and look at this afternoon?

curlywurlycremeegg · 24/09/2008 12:29

Cream and it isn't looking good

MrPinkerton · 24/09/2008 13:53

beige, 18mths old looking shite. If I could rerun that whole decision making disaster it would now be indigo dark blue.
