Shower/bathroom dilemma, please help!

We are moving in a few weeks time to our dream house. The area is lovely but the house is lived in by an 80 year old couple and needs total renovation. Its at the top end of our budget so we will only have 5K to do it up which won't go very far considering how much work it needs (have big plans long term when DC at school and I can go back to work ).

It needs a new bathroom but this is way down on our list of priorities. I'd like to put a shower in (over the bath) but am not sure if its financally silly to do this when we're not replacing the bath at the moment. If we put a shower in now would it need to be replumbed when we eventually replace the bath?

We used to have an aqualisa power shower over the bath at our old house which was great but expensive (around £500). Can anyone recommend a good shower which is cheaper?

All advice greatfully received!

I have got an aqualisa power shower and I love it, and they cost a bit less than £500 if you shop around on the internet now.

Just get one that attaches to the taps temporarily if you plan to replace the whole bathroom

Oh, sorry, had a quick look on the net and the cheapest price now for a quartz digital was £375 + £14.99 p&p, so not a whole lot less than 500.

I did get mine a while ago, and even the plumber was surprised at the bargain price; I must have just got lucky. Sorry!

Don't know what this model is like but it is a bit cheaper.

Get down to B&Q. Buy a shower attachment that goes over the bath taps, a pole to attach the shower head to the wall, a shower curtain pole and a shower curtain.

We've done this as a temporary measure - total cost about £100, and it has stood the test of time for over a year.

If the water pressure is OK, you can get good thermostatic taps with shower attachments built into them for about £50 on the internet. It should be fine.
