If you live in a Victorian house please tell me about your (internal) doors.

Due to a DIY mishap we need to replace all the doors upstairs with new ones, and would like to do so with something that adds a bit of character to what is a fairly characterless Victorian house. But I'm rather clueless as to what we should be going for.

Paid 15 quid each for our from a salvage yard, then another tenner each to have them stripped.

They needed waxing, which was none to ardulous, and then the man who was doing the work on the house had to cut soem to size a little bit.

I got all my knob and knocker needs met on Ebay, but this place is fab, even if just to get ideas:

missblythe- I too love willow and stone!
But this made me laugh...'I got all my knob and knocker needs met on Ebay'

If you are still undecided about door handles, we bought "ebonised" ie black versions a bit like this but at least half the pricewww.willowandstone.co.uk/showdetails.asp?id=1090

Our doors are or will be painted in F&B Dimity (slightly grey off white) which I think looks elegant.
I was also under the impression that Vistorian/Edwardian doors were usually painted rather than left as bare wood.

Sorry to abandon this thread. Been away for a few days. Thank you for all the ideas.

Grapefruitmoon - I'd love details of that door place!
