Is this a reasonable quote for tiling? Also, what about cheap tiles?

Our bathroom is average-sized. We want all the walls tiled but not the floor and have just been quoted £460 - there are about 20 square metres of tiles. Does that sound reasonable?

Also, the guy said not to use cheap B&Q ones as they were bad quality and cracked easily and the glaze let the water through etc. Trouble is, that's exactly what I was planning on using Has anybody here had problems with cheap tiles?

I had B&Q tiles and there has been water getting in behind the tiles but I think it was the bad grout that the tiler used.

Price would depend on how many cuts more than the sqm - it takes a lot of time to do fiddly bits. That said, 460 for a bathroom does seem reasonable enough to me.

Good quality tiles make a huge difference to the look - much more than the difference in price and are always worth it IMO. They don't have to be massively expensive.

Where abouts are you? We've got a decent sized bathroom and our tiler did the tiling and flooring for £250. We got cheap tiles from Topps tiles and they look great.

Our tiler did bathroom walls, shower room walls and floors for kitchen (small), utility room (tiny) and bathroom and shower room for £950... Agree that it is the cutting that will send price up - we used massive wall tiles which made job much easier.

The chap who did our tiling said get anything but B&Q. Apparently they crack very easily when cut, and there is a lot of wastage.

We used Topps and they were really good.

Get the thickest tiles you can afford.

Thanks, everyone! I only want plain, square white tiles so I thought the cheapest ones would do, don't want anything fancy (not after what we spent on our kitchen floor tiles )but I'll look at the better quality ones now as my Dad has just said that he'll do the tiling for me!
