how can I find out the price a property sold for if the sale was just a few months ago?

we're thinking about putting in an offer on a house in london and the house just next door was just sold a few months ago. agent has told us the selling price but it sounds very improbably high and I think he is just using it to give us a higher "comp" so we put in a higher offer on the one we're considering. is there any way to find out the selling price for such a recent sale? thanks!

My Dad told me about a website once that tells you the price of a property and when it sold, I think it was something to do with postcodes or down your street or something like that, why not try googling the postcode and see what comes up?

yes - try here

Onlyaphase · 11/07/2008 20:16

Sorry, this one is better here

Try putting the postcode into the the houses prices section on rightmove. It takes a while for them to be on there, a couple of months, I think. Otherwise just pay £2 on the land registry site.

enter the postcode onj rightmove house prices and then locate the street Although the land registry figures usually take about 6 months to be current which is why house price drops are so out of date!

Best site for this is called Zoopla, they have all the free uk house prices data up to ~3 months ago (Land Reg is the delay), and also do automated value estimates. Bit depressing in the current market but fairly accurate for my place.

lalalonglegs · 13/07/2008 10:06

Have to say that I found Zoopla's automated value estimates completely useless - it is based on what you paid rather than what has recntly sold.

Fizzylemonade · 13/07/2008 10:39

this site gives all the houses sold on the entire street, dates back to 2000 and you do have to register but it is worth it, oh and it's free

www.ourproperty.co.uk/

We use it lots

Agree about Zoopla, we bought our house at a reduced price as our vendors were buying a brand new house and the builders dropped their price so that the vendors could get a completed chain. So ours looks weird when it gives an "estimate" of what the house is worth.

nethouseprices is straightforward. They all get their info from Land Registry afaik

Tinker · 13/07/2008 19:40

here From Land Registry up to 31st May so not sure about LR being 6 months out of date

moneybagsuk · 15/07/2008 22:21

Zoopla has all the same Land Registry data that is on those other sites (free, no registration), but also the value estimates - so surely way better!?
