we live nw london...zone fiiive!...very expensive,lots of traffic...lovely yes,but not all that!

dp wants to live in somerset...i dont really,but i do see that a move from here might bring ...ummm something good!

i saw a house in the paper at the weekend (of course),built on stilts..a completely poncey yet gorgeous set up ...in camber sands.

anyway...it got me thinking...may be just maaaay be i would move?...if it were to th esea side

what with property prices correcting dp and i might be in a position to buy soemthing for about 220k

sort of looked at bognor and thereabouts last night...want to be somewhere east of somerset and west of london!

Hastings is cheap and supposedly up and coming. Ditto Littlehampton. Lovely beach there.

How about Worthing or somewhere just next to Brighton. Brighton is expensive but you get a lot more for your money if you are prepared to go out a bit.

I have worked in 4 house right by the sea.... as in right by the sea...

the cons...

my car has had 2 baths at VERY high tide
your car will ALWAYS be covered in sea salt.... i mean to the point where every few days you need to take a wet bit of kitchen towel out to wipe your mirrors just so you can see out of them

and the noise of the wind can be VERY loud, esp at night when its stormy

BUT on gorgouse summer days its just amazing and so relaxing!

Aren't they supposed to be putting a lot of investment in Bognor tho?? Better shops etc? Maybe not with the economic downturn. Second Worthing better option.

Hastings is not a dive!
Some parts are a bit tatty, but Old Town is fab and very boho-chic, great restaurants, boutiques etc. Much cheaper than Brighton. Big college/Hastings Uni centre being built now and tonnes of cash being thrown at the town for redevelopment. Also an amazing park (biggest town park in the country!)
Camber is lovely, but fully concur with the perils of seaside living - salt and sand EVERYWHERE! and you'd spend over and hour trying to get to the shops for a pint of milk in high summer - bloody grockles all over the place, and parking in your driveway (I'm not kidding!)

Felpham (just along from bognor) is much nicer han bognor IMO

you couldnt get a sea side house for anything like £200k though!

Some of hastings is grim, some is lovely, like Alexandra park - its huuuge and v pretty..
Worthing also bit grim, and Bognor (cant you tell by the name?)
Some of brighton isnt too expensive now, im looking to move back there again.

i know nothing about Camber though!

Camber Sands are gorgeous. The "town" itself is grim. There are some fab houses on the beach itself but I think the one you saw in the paper is on the road behind the beach which is a completely different proposition - you wouldn't even see the sea because of the dunes in the way.

Brighton is getting cheaper but not right on the seafront!But it is lovely to live here even if you can't afford sea views.hastings is grim(sorry)you can get a beautiful house cheap but the actual town is not that nice and fairly rough.Bexhill nice but suburban i actually like old biddies faves eastbourne and worthing

yes forgot bexhill (my ex lives there), its quite residential but you do get the beach.

Come and live on the Isle of Wight. It's actually more accessible to London than you would think, especially if you live in Cowes ( lovely ) or Ryde ( not so lovely ), as they have fast passenger ferry links to trains. You can get directly from the Island to London in two hours.

dont fancy camber because of the crowds

could live in a dive/near a dive..if needs be...hastings has some appeal.will look up little hampton,shoreham and the others

Ooh, I would love to live by the sea. Live about a mile away now (near Littlehampton, which is a bit of a dive IMO, but most places between it and brighton seem quite nice) and aspire to move closer and closer.

Even fighting through tourists to get to local shop would be ok for me!

Deal in Kent is lovely - we split our time between a noisy flat in London and a little house there. It's a mystery to me why it's undiscovered -- lovely old town, great stuff for kids to do (big indoor water park thing, outdoor paddling pool, old school amusement arcades etc), brilliant walks, lovely scenery...

It's gonna get better connected to London when the CTRL thingy starts in November next year.

We were there at the weekend and went to Whitstable for the day - which is lovely, but bursting at the seams, not as pretty coastline, same sort of shops, etc.

And it's still pretty cheap...
