Can’t find blinds or curtains so cannot move in!

Hi everyone,

I am moving into a property which has, as I see it, very standard sized sash windows. Typically 150cm w with a 200cm drop.
My issue is that I cannot find curtains or blinds that are long enough anywhere and I have spent weeks walking around IKEA, Dunelm, looking at Debenhams, B&Q, traipsing around John Lewis and I’m at my wits end

I also want thermal curtains to keep the heat in, but not blackout blinds in every room! I had really hoped to move in in the next couple of days so that my son can get used to his new house before he goes back to Nursery but I simply cannot find any curtains or blinds. The made to measure prices per blind/curtain start at £200 per item and it’s just not in my budget . I actually think I’m about to cry over curtains!

anyone able to suggest a retailer I might have missed? Given how many people on this planet have blinds and curtains I surely can’t be the only one with this issue!

Dunelm. Here's a roman blind in the Size you want. You can filter for others. www.dunelm.com/product/luna-easy-chain-blackout-roman-blind-1000281762?defaultSkuId=31030403&blindSize=W+153cm+%2860%22%29+x+D+200cm+%2879%22%29&colour=Natural

never mind the windows. what about the missing flooring...
a sheet would do as temporary window cover until you make you mind up or save for made to measure.

geminiflanagan · Yesterday 16:38

Literally just bought some 229cm drop curtains yesterday from Dunelm. You can also buy separate thermal linings from there which you hook into the curtains so if you can't find thermal curtains, there is an easy workaround

I don't understand why you can't move in, after tonight it will be dark between 5pm ish and 7.30 ish so wouldn't be totally necessary for moving in.

Frostynoman · Yesterday 17:17

John Lewis have a 228 drop. You need I think 1.5 to 2 times the width of a window for the curtain

Thank you for your suggestions, the dema to measure websites are so extremely expensive. That’s what I was trying to say, I’ve put in 150×200 and I seem to get £200+ per window .

This is my son’s window and strangely non of the curtains I have looked at have been long enough. 180/190 at the very most are the longest drop I’m finding

These curtains from IKEA will fit, and may actually need to be taken up.

Have you looked at online retailers such as blinds2go? There are several similar sites and you can input the measurements you need.

I used them and they were excellent.

We bought a load of these from Ikea to start us off for some rooms, just peg them up with a couple of clothes pegs when you want light in the day. They have a sticky strip you attach to the top of your window frame. Made of paper so you cut them to the width you need e.g. you might need 1 and a half blinds. Three years later we still have these on a couple of patio doors as saving for blinds hasn't been a priority.

I spent a long time spending a fortune on made to measure curtains.

More recently, I just buy two pairs of one pair isnt big enough. So the pole has like four panels. You cannot tell at all when they’re open, and it looks fine when they’re drawn

Meadowfinch · Yesterday 17:35

first place I tried, Dunelm thermals, right size, £45 per pair.

Google Dunelm Rotterdam Herringbone.

likelysuspect · Yesterday 17:36

Ikea are nearly always around 2m long, just get something cheap and dark and make do

Never heard of someone not being able to move in. Even a duvet cover or sheet over a wire above the window would do temporarily.

fluffiphlox · Yesterday 17:37

You will find curtains but in the meantime peg a duvet cover on the pole/track.

I've just spent about a minute googling and found loads at the size you need. Dunelm has loads.

Currently looking at the hideous bedroom curtains that don’t even fit properly. Some old ones of my mum’s that did the job at the time and have never been upgraded. We’ve been in this house for 5 years.

The vast majority of my blinds and curtains come from dunelm and weren’t expensive at all.

OrangeFlower14 · Yesterday 17:41

Weird thread, it’s a very standard size

whatwouldlilacerullodo · Yesterday 17:51

Ikea curtains are 300cm, they are the only ones long enough for my ceiling

LIZS · Yesterday 17:56

220cm is a standard off the shelf length. Or they are not hard to make. I doubt the bedroom windows are all 200cm drop but even so duvet cover or sheet is roughly that length so you could improvise.

Fakeplasticchimneyswhy · Yesterday 17:56

Charity shops or eBay

LIZS · Yesterday 17:58

Argos do ranges with different headers https://www.argos.co.uk/browse/home-and-furniture/blinds-curtains-and-poles/curtains/c:29541/

Myli1 · Yesterday 18:56

228cm is a standard drop. I needed 220 so I just turned the bottom of my curtains up with some iron-on tape. Could you move the curtain pole up or down to get near to a standard size? Unfortunately my poles were too thick to fit eyelet curtains over so I had to change all the eyelets, but that’s another story! 😬

Mmr224 · Yesterday 20:22

I've had curtains from.amazon for this type of window. w 66 inches (167cm) , drop 90 inches (223 cm) iw what you need to search for. Lora around the £28-45 mark for pairs in this size, some of which are blackout curtains. Good luck.

Sherararara · Yesterday 21:31

I got most of mine for our Victorian house from Dunelm online. Similar sized windows. Plenty of options online with long drops? Have you been going into the store rather than looking online? Are you not navigating the website properly?

wwyd2026 · Yesterday 21:34

182 and 228 and even 274cm drop curtains are easily available e.g. at John Lewis.
