I had an absolutely awful experience with a local handyman and construction company based in Clapham/Battersea called Building & Handyman & BH Basements. They operate across South West London and I initially had every reason to believe they were a trustworthy and professional company.
Unfortunately, the work they carried out was seriously substandard. The job went considerably over both the agreed timeframe and budget and despite raising my concerns, I felt they made very little effort to put things right or provide any meaningful support.
What was even more concerning was my experience with some of the people working on the property. On one weekend, I went to check on the progress and was shocked to find traces of a white powdery substance all over the surfaces. I was so taken aback that I genuinely felt uncomfortable being in my own home. On another occasion, I overheard one of their workers on the phone apparently speaking to a probation officer which added further to my concerns about the people they had working in my home.
Overall, we have never felt so poorly treated by a company to whom we paid a substantial amount of money for their services. The quality of the work, the delays, the additional costs and, most importantly, the way our concerns were handled have left us extremely disappointed.
I am now looking into reporting the company to the relevant consumer protection authorities. In the meantime, I wanted to share my experience so that anyone considering using them can do their own due diligence and make an informed decision.
This is simply my personal experience, but it is one I would strongly urge others to take seriously before hiring this company.
