Carpets. Can I get Tapi down in price?

Is Tapi Carpets a bit like Wren kitchens where they do an elaborate pantomime of costing it up to something pricey, and you’re meant to haggle? We got a huge quote for them. It’s significantly cheaper with a local fitter (same carpet) but the local doesn’t offer interest free, which we need. Did you haggle on quotes ?

I asked this three years ago and the answer was a resounding no; and when my husband tried, the lady said that we weren't in a market and the pricing was not negotiable 😅 but they seem to be everywhere and the quote wasn't at all competitive; so surely some people do?!

I’m guessing that you’re paying for the interest free credit through the higher initial price. A lot of people need to buy carpets and sofas this way.

We tried on a staircarpet a few years ago and they gave us the stair rods for free instead of a discount.

Have you thought about getting a 0% money transfer card so you can transfer money to your bank to pay the local fitter? There would be a small fee (normally like 3%) but that’s added to the card balance for you to repay during the interest free period. If you need more time to spread the payments, you can always look at transferring to a balance transfer card. Sometimes there are cards which will let you transfer for no fee as well.

I had Tapi come round to measure and give a quote last month - before he had even left the house he'd offered a discount (allegedly only valid 'today'). I then had multiple calls from both the salesman and the store over the next few days offering further discounts. I'd rather they just give me the proper price in the first place - we went with a local independent shop instead.

There is no such thing as interest free credit, you are paying for it somewhere.

Tapi did a blue light card discount when I bought mine from them.

Just a 0% purchase credit card would save from any fees don't need to balance transfer. Just look up 0% purchase cards. Then buy from wherever accepts card payments
