Aluminium windows , are they worth the extra cost?

We’re looking at replacing some of our windows and possibly the back doors, and I’m considering aluminium rather than uPVC.
I really like the slimmer frames and the more modern look, especially for larger windows and sliding doors, but I’m wondering whether they’re actually worth the extra money.
For those who have aluminium windows/doors:

  • Have you been happy with them?
  • Do you get much condensation?
  • Are thermally broken frames noticeably better?
  • How do they compare with uPVC for keeping the house warm?
  • Any problems with maintenance or the mechanisms?
  • Would you choose aluminium again?
I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have had them for a few years rather than just recently installed.

We replaced our wooden Georgian windows to aluminium over 20+ years ago. We got aluminium as the frames are thinner than new PVC so for anestestics. We haven’t had any problems.

We have x 5 windows in our lounge dinner so they are very visible, in your face. I have never had new PVC windows so cannot compare. Re condensation, in ver cold weather we might get some but it’s minimal. And yes I would get them again in this house though hoping they will last my lifetime.

5yrs ago we started renovating a derelict, 1930's property. It had a mix of windows and doors from very thin framed crittal to wooden sash. The outside is a pale render so we wanted a thin frame and chose black from a heritage range. We never lived in the property beforehand (smashed windows, no boiler etc) so can't compare to before/after.

  • Have you been happy with them? Yes
  • Do you get much condensation? None at all
  • Are thermally broken frames noticeably better? Sorry, so idea what this means?
  • How do they compare with uPVC for keeping the house warm? Cant compare as not sure
  • Any problems with maintenance or the mechanisms? None at all
  • Would you choose aluminium again? Yes

Are they white and in the sash style?

Yes they are.
