Which design would you choose for a one-year-old's room?

Would love some opinions on room decor for my one year old. Looking at repainting his walls to add some fun as they are boring beige atm. I like the safari theme but also threw in something different at the end, which is your favourite?

I've voted for 3 but can't see the difference between it and 4.
I prefer the narrower stripes and I think a dark lower half will be more practical.

HelpmaBoabb · 07/08/2026 11:07

i voted 3. The bottom part should be washable paint.

I do like the blue, it looks fresh and clean. As PP said washable paint at the bottom is a good idea.
Decor aside, is that the furniture you have/ are getting? The handles on the drawers look like they would catch on clothes or hurt if a toddler stumbled into them.
The bed doesn’t look very accessible if a parent needed to lie with DC and would be a climbing risk.
Sorry I know it’s not what you asked looks fun for playing not sleeping.

LittleBearPad · 07/08/2026 11:26

I really don’t like the mustard stripes OP of any thickness. Sorry

pinkpony88 · 07/08/2026 11:29

I like 3/4 but the lights on the bed look like a strangulation risk?

Pinkissmart · 07/08/2026 11:31

Smaller stripes, but it’s your home, so you do what you prefer ☺️

It’s similar to what we have and are keeping but not quite the same! He’s been in his floor bed since 7 months and it’s works great for lying with him at bedtime🙂

I like the half and half with the white skirting board.
Other themes could be woodland (would suit the bed you have) or circus themed (no clowns) with a touch of magic.

SusanJJ · 07/08/2026 11:53

Doesn't a one year old still need a cot?

champagnetrial · 07/08/2026 11:57

Breaking up the stripes is better otherwise it feels a bit like prison bars. I am playing 'spot the difference' between 3 and 4 though. (So far I have failed, tbh).

I love circus but my husband isn’t a fan!

No, we went from a next to me straight into a floor bed at 7 months 🙂

Amazing! Nice for the little one to be able to get out of bed safely.

Divebar2021 · 07/08/2026 12:08

I had a very neutral background ( it was a French grey) but then brought graphic black and white print and colour in with blinds, rugs, bed coverings and wall art. The rational was the accessories could be easy changed as she got older. Are you wanting your overall scheme to feel calm or fun? Somehow even the Stripey schemes feel knocked back and kind of subdued.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 07/08/2026 12:11

5 - it will suit more long term

Also I wouldn’t but too much money into it - best to wait till they are 4 ish and start to have their own preferences

Divebar2021 · 07/08/2026 12:12

You could really easily switch this up…. Paint the chest of drawers ( a coral or millennial pink or whatever colour floats your boat) switch out the blind for something else. Change the lampshade… even a paper lantern. Add some graphic prints and maybe a cotton washable rug. Some bunting if you’re minded.

It’s the skirting board Wink

I agree with the poster who said those lights round the bed look like a strangulation risk for a toddler.

I agree, this isn’t part of the design we will be adding ☺️

Actually I would keep the wall colour you have and just apply whatever-themed decals until he’s 5/6/7 yo and leans into cars/birds/trains whatever and you can switch them around.

As it is, the room just needs colour and a plant and something on the walls. But otherwise it’s nice as it is. The low-height furniture is great for letting him play in his room. A small desk and bench, a small beanbag, low shelves, accessible toys, none of it requires decoration. Just decor.
