Wow. I was expecting something like a 16th Century Scottish Tower House. That is........something else.

They should be done under the Trades Description Act for "harmonious blend of historical charm and modern luxury".

It doesn't even have a pool.

Thrump · 04/08/2026 11:26

Sure! If I could get planning to convert it into a Minecraft themed boutique hotel.

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 04/08/2026 11:26

No I want one more rural it’s too urban <ignores the fact I don’t have £18 never mind 1.8 mill>

youalright · 04/08/2026 11:27

Not as a home its far to big

orangehandles · 04/08/2026 11:35

Oh dear me, no.

Not my cup of tea at all. Where's the parkland, the grazing deer, the ha-ha, the parterre, the knot garden, the trout stream, the Orangery, the lake with swans on it?

TulipsMakeMeHappy · 04/08/2026 11:44

No, but I love the quirkiness and eccentricity that someone made it! I could see it becoming a hen/stag party venue with a bit of tweaking.

I think they've spelt humorous incorrectly.

Googling to find out the who, why and does it have planning permission brings up:

The Crawley homeowner who's turned his unassuming town house into an extraordinary castle - SussexLive

Which explains that the man who built it used to be a castle restorer who thought it was a good idea to build his very own castle and yes, it does have planning permission.

The Sussex homeowner who's turned his town house into a sprawling castle

Many children may dream of living in a castle but one Crawley resident has made it his reality

"A staggering castle". I agree. I am staggered.

Away to view definition of castle cos I don't think this could ever be called one. What a monstrosity.

What no dungeon?!

Bjorkdidit · 04/08/2026 11:52

But it seems this is not the first time this has been around the internet. There was an attempt to sell it for £3.2M in 2023.

11 bedroom detached house for sale in Horsham Road, Crawley, RH11

You wonder about the financials of something like this. How much has he spent on it, does he have a mortgage on it or was he wealthy so could afford the vanity project, how much does he need to sell it for to walk away? Could be quite sad really if someone spends a lot of money on something so unique it's unsellable and they're stuck with it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/08/2026 12:52

If you go to Google Maps, RH11 6AA, and then go to Street View and then 'See more dates' you can see it evolve over the years. (Photo is 2012)

"The company says the castle has planning permission for its existing layout but that the building is around four metres too high. Any potential buyer would need to do their homework and should expect to remove some of the height or apply for full planning permission."

That could be expensive!

"Hampstead-based Auction House London, who have been instructed to sell by receivers appointed on behalf of a lender"
It's being sold by receivers.

LilacLemur · 04/08/2026 14:33

Just up the road from me. Right on the side of a busy road. It’s vile 😂

SausageRoll2020 · 04/08/2026 16:37

That's not a castle. It's a soulless folly.

WonderingWanda · 04/08/2026 16:41

It's as tasteless as Trago Mills, looks like it's been built and furnished from with Trago tat as well.

HoppityBun · 04/08/2026 16:46

It’s not a castle. It’s cringe, inside the out.

And No.

allmycats · 04/08/2026 18:02

It is absolutely tasteless

Tootsiroll · 04/08/2026 20:29

Call me a snob if you wish, but I simply can't live a castle without an oubliette, I'm not a savage.
