Replacing vinyl tiles

I recently moved into my house. There are vinyl tiles in the bathroom which are stained. I can’t get the stains out. What are my options with replacing them?

There is a vanity unit and toilet - I don’t want to have to take them out to put a new floor in due to cost. Can I replace them, cutting around the fixed items? Can I paint them?

Any ideas?

Yes, you can cut around the vanity and toilet and then retile and it’s a lot easier to cut vinyl than actual tile - it won’t be as neat a finish as moving and tiling underneath as you’ll have a visible edge/join and probably want to cover it with sealant, but it looks as though your toilet is already sealed where it meets the floor anyway.

You can paint vinyl tiles but in high traffic areas it’s prone to wearing off, and vinyl is a flexible surface which can also cause the paint to crack.

Thank you. Is it easy with LVT as I’d rather have that.

I’d speak with an LVT supplier. Depending what’s under your vinyl currently you may need to add a ply subfloor for evenness and stability which would raise the flooring slightly and might look strange where it meets the vanity and toilet. LVT can be fitted in bathrooms, though you’d definitely need a good sealant on the open edges around toilet and vanity to prevent water splashes (and wee, if you have small children!) seeping in.

You can definitely cut around the toilet and vanity if you don't want to remove them. It's quite common, especially if you're trying to keep costs down. Just take your time with the cuts so they look neat.

Personally, I wouldn't paint the vinyl tiles. It can look okay at first, but in a bathroom it usually doesn't hold up that well with moisture and regular cleaning.
If you're replacing the floor, I'd consider luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) or porcelain floor tiles if your budget allows. There are plenty of options at places like Royale Stones if you're looking for ideas. Both are much more durable than painting the existing floor.

It looks like permanent staining or discoloration, which is common with older vinyl flooring. If regular cleaning hasn't removed it, replacement is probably the best option.
We replaced ours with porcelain tiles from Royale Stones, and they've been much easier to maintain.
You can fit new vinyl or LVT around the toilet and vanity without removing them, though removing them gives a neater finish. Also, I wouldn't paint the floor, as it doesn't tend to last in bathrooms.
If your budget is tight, try cleaning the vinyl naturally first. There's a useful guide showing effective ways to remove hard water, limescale and mineral build-up before deciding to replace the floor.

Has anyone bought bathroom tiles from Royale Stones? I'm renovating my en-suite and still can't decide on the colour. I came across the Atacama Grey Matt Bathroom Tiles and really like how it looks in the photos, but I'm unsure whether it's the right choice. Has anyone used it? Is it worth it? I'd really appreciate any honest feedback.
