How can I make better use of a kitchen corner cupboard?

I'm moving house and the kitchen corner cupboard is going to become the cupboard of doom. Things in it never to be seen again.
Any ideas of a better way to utilise it?

You can fill it with things you don't need and never use.
Or you can leave it empty.

Seriously though, maybe special Christmas china, so you only have to scramble about in there once or twice a year.

The annoying post down the middle should almost certainly be attached to one of the two doors. It’s a 5 minute job to change it. Then the cupboard is much more accessible. I only know this because I lived with a similar arrangement for 14 years before suddenly realising the ‘post’ had been fitted wrongly.

Put in some baskets that are easy to slide in and out, and use it for "stuff you need, but don't use very often". I use mine for baking stuff, tins, etc, big pans and bowls and I also stash kitchen paper in there.

Carousel it...i love mine.

One of those half moon storage carousels that pull out.
Baskets that can just be pulled out containing things you don’t use as often, baking things, dried pulses etc.

What a good idea!

Carousel sounds like a plan too.

What @Saltedporridge said.

In my corner cupboards the centre support attaches to one of the doors so if you open both doors you can see everything.

Fantastic. Did you just glue it?

When we had our kitchen redone, I was reluctant to have a corner cupboard even with a carousel, because previous experience with one showed that it's not a great use of space/quite impractical.

However, it was hard to avoid and the carousel actually works quite well. I don't know if you can retrofit them, or if it's something that has to be added when the kitchen is built.

How much effort/expense you'd go to will on how much you need the space. I think in the short term, I'd try get 4 large plastic boxes, that you can slide in and out and put less frequently used items in there.

Thanks. We're having the kitchen redone eventually just not straight away. We'll be getting it designed and won't be having this corner cupboard. The kitchen is quite large so can get away without it. It just hasn't been designed well this time.

Storage - for whatever fancy

likelysuspect · 08/07/2026 21:07

Unless you have a proper pull out its difficult. People dont utilise their space well I find. I have a corner cupboard with 2 metal basket shelves on the door that pulls out, and then another 2 that are inside pull out behind them

Its my plastics cupboard, its full to the brim and Im in and out of it all the time. Completely accessible.

Denim4ever · 08/07/2026 21:22

I don't have a corner arrangement like that but do have a long sideways deep cupboard. Bigish door one end and then the depth of the washing machine onward to an outside wall. In bottom section far end I store baking racks and tins I rarely use, in far end of the top I store the wok. We use the wok most weeks and it easily lifts over the pans I store at the near end. Most of our cooking pans live in this cupboard.

CointreauVersial · 09/07/2026 12:10

We have a spinny carousel thing. But it does waste a lot of space (and has collapsed, because we overloaded it, but that's another story....)

TheSmellOfSea · 09/07/2026 12:37

I'm going to do the removing post thing once we've started making a big dent on the heap of stuff.

I wish I was a minimalist. 🙈
I'm not a hoarder and have got rid of lots. Took lots to the charity shop again today. But we have so much still.
