Spray foam issues

Hi,

We are in need of having spray foam insulation removed from our loft space as it is holding us back from remortgaging our house. We've been told that we need to have a certified spray foam removal company to remove the foam but having spoken to a few different services, we are struggling to find someone for a decent price. We were considering using Smart Solutions-365 (https://smartsolutions-365.co.uk/) as we live in the South West, does anyone else have any recommendations or had a similar problem?

Thanks,
Jodie

"We've been told that we need to have a certified spray foam removal company to remove the foam"

Who told you that?

Many roofers don't like doing it as it is slow and dusty work, and the loft will be unbearably hot on a sunny day. I expect you will need a roofer afterwards anyway to repair faults and damage. If it was me I would consider a complete new roof to be better use of my money.

Most of the information online seems to come from traders and a trade association. I had a look at the RICS document

But all it seems to say about removal is, consult a RICS member.

I have just had a big problem with spray foam in the roof as I am selling my house. After researching it all it’s best to have a new roof completely. It’s expensive unfortunately.

Interested to hear that. do you have any comparative figures? I had some work done on my roof, and only realised afterwards I would have done better with a renewal.

My situation wasn’t typical as there are rooms in the attic and plasterboard over some of the foam but I was told that inside removal still might not make the property mortgageable and would damage the roof. The foam was sprayed directly onto the slate. I had widely differing estimates for removal and re roofing but one roofer wasn’t a great deal more to reslate the entire roof than to have the foam removed and I am sure I would have had to pay for a damaged roof anyway.
