Washer/dryer - is this slow drying time normal?

I bought this model of washer/dryer based on the recommendation of the retailer. The retailer was recommended to me by the previous home owner, and I trusted his judgement which seems pretty sound re: the house we've just bought off him and how he's sensibly maintained it. I needed someone to take it up a flight of stairs to install, and I gathered people like Curry's would say 'sorry guv, not insured' - they only charged £30 for delivery and installation.

I need a W/D because a) the house is a bit too small for washing to linger and b) it's Victorian so will be prone to damp in winter.

Yesterday, I dried:

Two hand towels - 1hr 5 mins
One really thin cotton superking elasticated bottom bedsheet - 55 mins

Is this normal?

It's painfully slow and I really don't think I have the sort of time to be hanging around waiting half a day for some bedsheets and towels to dry.

Unfortunately, space in the utility cupboard is a bit tricky. In theory there's room for a dryer but I'd have to get custom built shelves above it for all the towels and bedsheets, as I've got nowhere else to store them.

So, is this normal, or have I been sold a dud?

Does it not give you estimated drying times on the display?

Washer dryers are notoriously shit. They damage your clothes drying st high temps for long periods.

Are you in England? Drying it outside yesterday would have been quicker and more environmentally friendly. It is boiling at the moment. (Apologies if you are elsewhere)!

Yes I am, but 70% of the time you can't dry stuff outdoors here, and my line is tiny because it's a yard, not a garden.

See I'd looked into this a couple of times over the years, commented on a few MN's threads (I think I was complaining about an old rental - 2 hours to dry a large bath towel) and a bunch of people told me w/dryers have come a long way since my rubbish experience six years ago.

This machine is just proving them wrong. Or, I should've bought one at twice the price for a better performance?

Either way, I'm not happy.

Yeah it does. It always starts off estimating the drying time at 3 hours, then I go away and do something else and eventually hear there's no water hitting the drain and stuff is dry (in 1 third of the time).

It's not what it's saying on the display that's the problem (I can always set an alarm), it's living in a potentially freezing house and having to wash lots of blankets through winter / the overall time it takes to get washing dry that is causing me to scratch my head.

Washer dryers are notoriously poor, much better to get separate if you are able. It’s probably too late now though op if you have used it.

Yes! A combined wash and dry can take a total if 6hrs on many models, so an hour for two towels seems right. They are a nightmare.

Yeah... nope!

Plan B:

The attic gets utilised as a drying space (it's been like an oven up there this week anyway), we get a dehumidifier so it doesn't get mouldy up there, and the other half lifts and hauls all the heavy things up the twisty turny steps (I have M.E., lifting is difficult, as are twists and turns).

I just put two towels, one hand towel (all three of which were already dry) in there with a wet flannel to 'fluff' the towels up, and it took 1 hour 20 minutes.

These machines O_O

It is a long time but I believe on parr for washer dryers. You compromise drying time for the space saving of having everything in one machine.

Take heart. My heat pump tumble dryer takes 1 hour 40 minutes to dry a load but then it only costs 20p. Well worth the compromise for me 😁
