Kitchen handles

We’re in the middle of a kitchen renovation. We’ve gone for a dark green solid wood shaker style kitchen but I can’t decide on the handles. I want brass, but can’t decide between a satin “brass colour” handle (advantage: pretty much indestructible) or an unlaquered solid brass handle that will age beautifully over time (and cost a lot more). For further info, I’ve chosen unlaquered brass taps and I’m worried that a shiny brass handle will look gaudy next to an aged brass tap. On the other hand I don’t want everything to look to matchy matchy. What do others think? Any practical experience of either option?

We're currently doing our kitchen (dark pinky/burgundy in-frame) and have chosen unlaquered brass handles/knobs. These are a mix of deVOL and Corston, plus we have some original brass knobs on a vintage wall cupboard. Our look is definitely not matchy matchy as we'll also be installing a much loved chrome articulated tap from Hornbeam Ivy 😉

The knobs and handles have been in situ for a couple of months now and are bedding in nicely. I just give them the occasional buff.

I'd go for what you love @WutheringTights - we splurged on nine deVol knobs at £40 each because they're ❤️ and make me smile every day!

I love the look of that tap. We’re going for the Perrin and Rowe brass bridge taps x 2 (2 sinks) plus a rinse and a quooker. I could weep at the cost. But it feels like the thing that you touch every day shouldn’t be the thing that you try to save money on.

We're going for a vintage feel in a new build. Triple glazing with black metal monkey tail handles, ledge and brace doors made by our carpenter with black iron waxed latches. I hate the feel of iron cupboard handles so I have bought modern Bakelite D handles and a couple of round knobs. The chap who made our kitchen was bemused at our choice...he'd never heard of it!

BTW we're having Bidbury single taps and spray, chrome with porcelain H & C indicaters (I'm sure there's a proper term, brain melting today!) and a Kohler farmhouse sink. I'm scared of Quookers so my trusty old kettle will be lowering the tone 🙄

I'm sure your kitchen will be lovely whatever you choose!
