Beachfront apartment

My husband and I and our 2 boys live in a 3-bedroom house in a quiet village. My boys are one and four. Our home is a new-build and perfectly pleasant. Quiet street, family friendly etc! We’ve been here since 2019 and love our home.

A 2-bedroom beachfront ground floor apartment in Scotland has become available 5 miles from us. It’s in the town my husband works in and it would mean we could reduce to one car. The flat is stunning and the boys would grow up together with the sandy beach literally as their front garden! It’s gorgeous! It’s a busy beach but so stunning! The boys would need to share a bedroom with bunk beds which is okay while they’re little.

We would have a few issues to iron out. The next door neighbour to us is apparently a horrible man but my husband and I feel fit to take him on and we would set the tone at the start that his reputation precedes him!!

Am I not thinking clearly - is this all a bad idea or is life too short?! Just go for it?! ☀️

Go for it. Living on the coast with a beach for a garden is fantastic.

How late is it busy? A friend sold her beachfront in Poole because in summer you get a lot of parties on the beach in the evening/ people hanging out and it was a bit of a nightmare from a noise and antisocial behaviour perspective. In winter you just get sand blown.

How old are the kids? Won’t they want their own bedrooms soon enough? How do they feel about moving schools, losing the garden etc? I ask all this from a place of contemplating a similar move and deciding that going from 3 to 2 beds isn’t a great idea with 2 kids. We had a 2 bed before this and it was not fun. We’re still thinking of moving to near the sea but only when a suitable 3 bed appears! Also you might feel up to putting the neighbour in his place but how will you feel if he starts on your kids?

I think the midges keep people away in Scotland especially in the evening so that’s something!

the school would be a 5 minute drive 😊

Are you buying this apartment or renting?

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2026 18:21

Is it "storm- facing"? That can be very scary indeed.
And your windows will always need washing.

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 17/06/2026 18:22

It would be a no from me simply for the neighbour. I know you feel able to take him on but do you really want the stress of having to do that?

Don’t underestimate how wearing a difficult neighbour can be. ‘Taking him on’ would probably make him more disagreeable.
