Help choose a colour for my hallway

Please help me choose a colour for our hallway. I’m going mad trying to choose! It’s our first time decorating this hall and the lighting is making the paint appear very dark or reddish
It’s a north facing hallway. Not much natural light.
(skimming stone above the door. Followed by welcome white valspar, bottom is pointing)
on the swatch wall we have timeless, goose feathers. Almond white. Pointing. Schoolhouse white. Drop cloth. Welcome white. Skimming stone. )
here you can see goose feathers is quite dark. Timeless is barely visible. Schoolhouse is a strange plaster colour but this one is a valspar dupe. Skimming stone is darker than I expected.
I would like the hallway to be bright, it’s dull at the moment with the white as the light from the window makes it look blue grey

I like Schoolhouse as it has a warmer tone, which helps in a north-facing hallway. We have a similar colour in our hallway, and it is very versatile as it works with hot/warm coloured artwork, but also with more natural colours, like a sage storage unit. The others look either a bit too pale or too grey.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 16/06/2026 15:34

The Pointing looks wrong too! It’s a warm off white and I have it. Schoolhouse white is a white! Look at the F&B site for better inspiration in real interiors.

Almond white.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/06/2026 15:55

Almond white

Abra1t · 16/06/2026 16:00

We have almond white in our bedroom (east facing) and I've been meaning to repaint the bedroom but the almond white never looks wrong, if you know what I mean, so my plans for redoing it have got nowhere.

Crojo · 16/06/2026 16:11

I have a similar hallway. Anything with a hint of grey goes very cold. Anything beige looks very brown. I loved Valspar Goose Feathers from the swatch and photos online however it looked very dark like on your walls (Valspar give you a full refund if you’re not happy with the colour btw)
After many many testers I ended up choosing Soft Wool by Valspar. It’s a warm but bright off white/cream. Similar to Timeless but warmer and softer.

Tortephant · 16/06/2026 16:17

OP, have a look, actually buy a tester if Mylands Lemon Salts. I think that might be what you are looking for. It sounds like yellow, it’s actually a brightening warm neutral.
Ive just used it in all my window frames externally, it works in all orientations and weather conditions.

It's not on your list but Coat "Pudding" is my favourite paint colour ever. It's not pink, or beige, or plaster coloured yet it's all of those at the same time. It's hard to explain but it's light, warm but definitely not too pink. I think it would be lovely in a darkish hallway

ToadRage · 16/06/2026 16:29

I'm not sure if like any of those colours. Try gentle fawn. That's what we have in our lounge. It's neutral and light. Our hall is white with grey accents, dark grey door frames and bannister, silver grey carpet on stairs and silver grey curtains over front door.

Thankyou so much for all the suggestions. I didn’t think choosing paint was so difficult.

I'm currently painting my hall in lick white 05. I have to say, it's great paint (we went for the multisurface version) and the colour is really lovely. I would take a look at what they offer. Plus 20% off in b n q at the moment.

Paulrn · 16/06/2026 20:02

We chose our colours by getting an AI to show the room in different colours.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 16/06/2026 20:07

Honestly in a dark hallway i think sludge colours and white are false friends... a good solid is your slightly scary but true friend

we have a fully enclosed stairwell (its windowless and middle of house) and used little greene celestial blue.

It looks gross online but IRL its really warm looking we get a lot of unprompted compliments from visitors and delivery people etc.

Googling it apparently bluey greens are good for dark hallways so maybe try celestial blue?

TiddlieWinks · 16/06/2026 20:13

I have a north facing hallway and would go for Almond White.

menopausalmare · 16/06/2026 20:23

We painted our hall/stairs/landing this year. My top tip is to get F&B colour matched at Brewers on a Johnson's base. If you have a blue light card, it brings a 5 litre tin of F&B emulsion down from £105 to £65.
With you hallway, I would go light and add splashes of colour with pictures.

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 16/06/2026 20:23

I have a similar hallway and have nutmeg white (it’s pinker than you’d expect, different colours in different light)

TiddlieWinks · 16/06/2026 20:26

We have used nutmeg white and would use it again. It has the warmth of Timeless which I also think might work for you OP.

ZenNudist · 16/06/2026 20:32

I have similar hall ans have Egyptian cotton by dulux. Its greige. Skimming stone is similar and looks lovely in my quite dark attic bathroom.

I don't think you can go too wrong with skimming stone.

I have almond white in a dark back bedroom and it's very meh. I wish I'd Egyptian cottoned it.

Natural calico by dulux is a lovely off white and previously worked in my dark hallway.

SpringingOn · 16/06/2026 20:39

Of your test paints I like the almond white best but think you could do with something a bit warmer like roman white or jasmine white.

ladygindiva · 16/06/2026 22:48

Almond white 100%

Usedtohelp · 17/06/2026 00:52

Almond White would likely work

paintedpanda · 17/06/2026 04:19

Our lounge is almond white and I love it. Everything else I picked was too dark so even though the swatches looked too light when we did the whole room it was perfect. In a hallway with minimal light I’d definitely go lighter than the swatches look because once it’s all over the walls it’ll be right.
From your swatches, I’d say GF, SH, SS, and drop cloth are all too dark.

OtterLovesItsRock · 17/06/2026 04:50

I would lean into the darkness and choose a black background wallpaper with rich colours.

This then contrast it with bright white bannister and radiator

UnderTheSycamore · 17/06/2026 07:17

Personally in a north facing hall I'd embrace the dark and go for a proper colour which will make it feel warmer, but if you want neutral check out farrow and ball white tie. It's got a yellow undertone which will counter the blue northern light.
