What regular home maintenance should I be booking as a first-time owner?

I bought my first house last May. I have just realised that as I've been in my house a year now, I should be getting my boiler serviced. I'm not in the habit yet as I've never had to get it done before! It got me wondering what other maintenance/upkeep things I should be booking in regularly, whether once a year, every two years etc?

Check the house visually / look for outdoor paintwork that is cracking for example or gutters that are leaking or roof tiles that have moved

The only other thing I do is get the burglar alarm serviced.

I also make a note to turn the main stopcock when I get the boiler serviced so that it doesn't seize up as well as turn the filter thing at the bottom right of the washing machine because I didn't do it for over 10 years and I had to call a repairman.

All I do is get the boiler serviced annually and look up at the roof after high winds to check no tiles have fallen off. I'm sure there's more I'm meant to be doing but ignorance is bliss!

Yes, check gutters when it is raining to ensure that they are not overflowing.

An annual boiler service and periodically checking and clearing the gutters as ours always seem to fill up with leaves.

If you have an open fire or logburner, get that swept once per year. Electrical check every 10 years.

Keep tabs on your usage of water and elec/ gas so you have a track and can spot a water leak or faulty meter.

Bleed radiators once in a while.

Walk round the house in pouring rain to check gutters and downpipes.

Boiler, woodburner and gas fire are the only ones we do annually

Thank you, I have a gas hob, should I be getting that checked every year?

Check your smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detector when you have the boiler service done.

Annual boiler service and get gutters cleaned out once a year end of October best time as leaves will have fallen off trees by then.

I get all gas appliances including hob checked out by person who does annual boiler service. It just costs me £10 more as he's already here.

Dishwasher salt and rinse aid and filters, smoke alarms

Excellent suggestions here.

I use the clocks changing as a spur to check some things, so smoke alarms twice a year.

Boiler service and I get my gas fire (or any fireplace) swept. I have window cleaner who comes every six weeks or so. Otherwise just keep an eye out for damp, slipped tiles, invasive plants (tree saplings can take hold before you know it).

We are rural so in addition to what others have mentioned we also have to get our oil tank filled a couple times a year and our septic tank emptied once a year. And we have a water softener (hard water area) which needs more salt to be added to it every so often.

Yes to smoke alarms! We moved last year and didn't think to check the smoke alarms. Just recently the battery went on one of them and when I took it down I realised that they were 10 years out of date! All three were quickly replaced!

Yes, you could have that done at the same time as your boiler service, but I just have a carbon monoxide detector by the cooker. I also have one in my bedroom.

Check radiator inhibitor levels and add inhibitor if necessary.
