Selling house

Would you buy a terraced house in South East London with a shop two doors down?

I guess it would depend on if I liked the house and whether the shop was the sort that encouraged loads of people hanging round at all hours or where it was say a clothing shop open 9-5?

Thank you for your reply.
It's a corner shop, opens at 7am and shuts around 10pm.
I'm probably biased as I have lived here all my life and I love London. DH moved to be with me from the south coast and as much as he also loves London, he thinks no one wants to live next to a shop with the constant flow of people walking past our front door.

Probably not, and I'm a born and bred Londoner. But I'm older now, and 30 years ago I wouldn't have cared much if I had the space and the location I wanted. It depends on a lot of things, including price.

Think of re-sale and also what if the corner shop were to turn into a fast food place. Councils give planning consent for inappropriate change of use all the time - that is what I'd be really aware of, that it might be fine now but could become a lot worse (food places come with smells and noisy extractor fans, rats, rubbish).

It's a very quiet area with a primary school on the doorstep, great travel links in to London bridge, Waterloo and Victoria.
No major tube stations, obviously, but close enough to get to.
I looked on Rightmove and there are no properties available in this area right now. I think it's a sought after area.
Haven't put the house on the market yet, we're looking at a year, but the houses round here go for between 750 and 1.2

So the houses next to us and the shop ate owned by one person and he applied to knock them all down and build townhouses. It was approved by the council.
We all objected!
He left it too late and the shop remains!

I thought you were asking, should you buy a house near a corner shop? If you're selling, then what does it matter? - you will sell it for whatever it's worth.

DH is telling me we have a problem selling because we have a shop next door, I don't think we do. Was asking opinions.
I've lived here forever and it's always been a nice area.
I would definitely look at the house and wonder if what you said might happen though!

I mean I think get it on the market and see what happens - if there is nothing else for sale and it sounds a great location for commuters then luck may be on your side.

id maybe invest in some really lovely blinds/shutters for the front windows for added privacy (if you haven’t already got them) but different people look for different things you will be surprised.

Plus if a landlord buys it (as it would probably rent very well being in such a good location) a shop might not bother them as they won’t be there.
good luck! Try not to worry.

We do have lovely wooden blinds in the front 😂
Thank you for your opinion. Really appreciate it! X
