Seller Deadline

We're in the middle of a 3 person chain.

Our sellers just put 'ASAP' down for a moving date on the TA6 form. We were told they'd be moving in with a relative on completion whilst they bought a houseboat to live in.

The transactions both sides are going fairly well with just a last minute hiccup with our buyer's lender that's getting sorted.

8 weeks in since we made the offer, we get a message that they have to complete in 3 weeks at the latest or they'll lose their slot with the boat builders and have to wait months for a new one. If true, and we didn't complete then because of circumstances out of our control (slow Solicitors etc), there's a high chance they'll decide to stay put for a few months. They're using Purplebricks so have only paid £150 with the rest due on completion, so no skin off their nose to pull out.

We feel we've been misled. We had no idea of any time constraints. I've asked them to confirm their intention to sell should that date be missed. We're under so much pressure, as are our buyers. I feel like pulling out of the purchase and renting to break the chain.

Anyone else had this situation? Any advice on how to proceed?

I would prepare to rent, you can take a rental for a short period now that the law has changed. But if as you say there are only last minute hiccups to deal with it may be possible to get it done anyway ?

Sound reasonable to me. There is no reason why this is a complex transaction. Tell the solicitor that’s what’s happening.

Is there definitely somewhere available to rent? I would check that first. It's not as easy as it once was.
