Buying a terrace with underpinned extension next door

We are in the process of buying a terraced house. Just got the seller pack and learned that the house next door had a 2 storey extension built a few years ago, meaning that the wall between the house we would be buying and theirs required underpinning due to the additional weight.

Have shared this with our surveyor and am going to find out more about it. Just wondered if anyone had bought in these circs and whether we would be foolish to do so? I am concerned about insurance and resale as well as whether there's been any impact on the house- I think people hear "underpinning" and freak (which to be fair is what I am doing).

I’d be concerned and probably wouldn’t proceed. Hear what the surveyor says though with an open mind.

I think I'd look for another house without this concern.

Has the price been reduced below normal?

Has the surveyor identified an actual issue or are they just pointing out that this work has been done as required by local planning for the extension? Its not an uncommon planning requirement in some areas.

Underpinning doesn't always mean There's a problem
It is essentially the process of strengthening or extending an existing building's foundations to make them deeper or more load-bearing. It’s to comply with building regs
The worry should be no more than buying a new house…ie did they build it correctly
Ask the sellers how often building control visited and especially if they visited to inspect the underpinning
