Hi
Can I ask if anyone has had air con fitted how much it costed per unit? Seriously considering it as our bedrooms get so incredibly hot in the summer.
We are in the south for reference
Thank you!

We are planning a kitchen extension and the air con line item was £6.5k. We havent had other quotes back yet so maybe that will be on the higher end, but we were quite disappointed as it probably means we'll have to go without to keep our budget in line.

Edit to add that this is London.

We have ducted air conditioning throughout upstairs (5 bedroom house). It was £12k last year and the best thing we ever did. It also heats. It’s zoned so each bedroom can be controlled separately (individual units on the walls and is also app based).

The app means we can control it when we’re not home as well. Or in the winter I can press ‘heat’ on my app to get our bedroom warm before bedtime
from the comfort of our sofa

We got it installed last summer. It was £5k for three rooms, in one of the most expensive parts of the UK. We had other quotes for £7.5-£9k.

It is the best decision we have ever made, house-wise.

I am debating this too. You can have multiple rooms run by a single compressor on the outside now, so I am planning on that for the living room and my bedroom. I am about to get quotes, so will report back. I am expecting somewhere around £3-5k

Phew it is pricey isn't it. We would probably only want it in 1 or 2 bedrooms

Is this in addition to the central heating or instead of?

We still have the central heating, as it was installed with the house. We can use the air con system
to heat upstairs, it’s actually really efficient.

If you dont want a split system, the most efficient is the box type that sit in the window or wall, the mobile units are very inefficient as the working parts that generate heat are in the room with you..i used to work for Toshiba and have a box unit in the bedroom window...a bit noisy as old but cools room very fast so only on for an hour.

We use a portable unit, stick the tube out of the window and it works great. £300. Much more cost effective if you only need it sometimes.

We had air con fitted last year, an outdoor compressor unit that powers three indoor units (all on the same side of the house, so all three rooms are on one side - to have rooms on the other side of the house would have been more complex/required a second outdoor unit). Due to various factors we had it installed at the end of summer last year so we are using it ‘in anger’ for the first time now - wow, it’s amazing!! Total cost was almost £6k. I’m sat my the cool cool lounge now and it is fabulous.

Thank you, we have one already but it only reduces the heat about 1° per hour 😅
