I’m planning an extension and Reno ti part of my house, creating a new kitchen/diner, utility and boot room, bedroom and bathrooms.

I’ve never done any type of work before, and I’m really struggling with decisions about colours for cabinets, walls, woodwork etc.

I like pretty much everything, but I’m torn between having a cohesive look (not matchy, but I suppose a palette of colours), and just going with whatever I really like for each room and not thinking about how it works as a whole.

I’m also very indecisive and struggle to visualise, so please recommend me instagram accounts of nicely done family homes where everything is finished (rather than DIY or reno projects that are mid way through) so that I can see what people choose for each room and how it all looks as a whole house. My taste is fairly conservative, but I do like colour and don’t want to play too safe and miss a chance to have something I really like. Or choose the same colour for every room because it’s my favourite, which is more of a possibility!

Put some photos of your actual space into ChatGPT and write a brief for it to render some concepts for you

What type of house OP? Victorian terrace? 30s semi?

Rebeccaconstable springs to mind, she's got a gorgeous Victorian terrace, lovely taste (that I would describe as conservative but with great use of colour) and offers lots of design tips too which may help.

Maybe look at some of the home magazines, I don’t really trust influencers!

We just finished a big renovation that involved a partial knocking down and rebuilding, over two stories, two bathrooms, a utility, a pantry, a small sitting room/snug, a new hallway front and back, and a kitchen.

Honestly, OP, the kitchen finishes, colours for walls and woodwork are a really long way away. First of all you have a lot of far bigger decisions to make. I found those things were minor and easy to decide on after the huge, structural things.

Edwardian house, detached. Lots of period features like stained glass, fireplaces, high ceilings, tall skirtings, wide doors, coving, I’m fairly conservative in my taste, but I like to stay true to the period of the house, I don’t like very dark colours but I don’t want to be too boring. I like cohesive but not matchy.

Absolutely to the colours etc being a long way off. At the moment, we’re thinking about draining, levelling, glass etc. I just need to get excited about the final look and colours for walls and cabinetry are a big part of me visualising how it will look and feel.

I have lots of magazines, but they tend to focus on one room, or individual features, and I would like to see how someone’s pretty much entire downstairs or upstairs looks as a whole.

I will look at rebeccaconstable and velvet interiors, thank you
