Does anyone have vinyl in their kitchen, dining room?

or anywhere else (non bathroom) in their house. First of all we wanted wood flooring in hallway and new living room with tiles or slate in the kitchen. We had decided on some engineered wood and some floor tiles but are having second thoughts, particularly in the kitchen which is fairly large and will have a dining area in it (which will be 'separated' from the kitchen by an island type layout). We're concerned that it will be too awkward with having large wooden table (scraping on the floor). DH has mentioned that he has put a lot of plush cushioned vinyl in a few houses (he project manages a few buildings etc) and when he first saw what went down he thought (by look) it was the original material. My recollection of vinyl is not pretty good, so has anyone got it in their house and if so what's it like. Carpet is not an option in dining area.

Am interested in this thread as we need new flooring for kitchen as well.

Have looked at cork as an option (Wilanders) and someone previously has mentioned Marmoleum which I think is a posh kind of vinyl-ish stuff (but am not sure, so stand to be corrected)

Sorry, not the advice you need but hopefully someone knowledgeable will come along soon.....

We have vinyl in the kitchen. (It was put in with the kitchen)
It's ok it doesn't look like it used to do years ago. You can get some really good ones.
It is practical and easy to clean. It is warm under foot too.

I think good quality vinyl is hugely underrated. We thought about vinyl, but eventually went with marmoleum.
If you have loads of dosh, you might want to think about amtico.

Have vinyl in Kitchen/dining room. Table not marked floor like I thought it might, and get quite a few comments on how nice our "laminate" flooring is

Only issue I have is that the company who laid it, also removed the carpet. Stoopid me forgot to lift carpet and clean/sand/paint the last couple of mm that now show with vinyl down

Sorry internet been down for 24 hours. We've been looking at Karndean flooring this morning which looks so much like the real thing and I think we're going to go with that. Will have a look at amtico though but if i remember rightly it was on show this morning and there weren't any we liked. Its similar stuff though. Thanks for your help everyone.
