How do new homeowners manage parking permits on completion day?

Just that really. We can't apply for a residents parking permit until we have updated our bank and insurance statements, which we can't do until we've moved in. There are only going to be a few days between exchange and completion anyway. So on completion day, and for a few days afterwards (don't know how long the council take to issue resident parking permits), how do we park on our new road?
Additionally, our removal van/s will need 1 or 2 visitor parking permits for completion day, and possibly the day after. Again, not sure we can arrange this without being the resident.
I've asked the EA but from what I've read, whilst the current owners can sort visitor permits, it's reliant on them doing this properly on the app on their phone, which we have no control over. Also not sure if us as owners are legally allowed to use visitor permits.
What do you do in this scenario? It must be very common but I can't find any existing MN threads on it.
Thanks,
Emma

Contact the council and get a temporary/visitor permit to cover the time untill you get your residents permit.

Call your council, they will be able to advise and processes vary from council to council, so best to go straight to the horse's mouth.

visitor permits are available for tradespeople and visitors

It will depend on the local area, but when I had this issue last year, the council accepted a letter from the solicitor confirming exchange of contracts as proof of my new address.

They often have special arrangements for removal vans - the people you are buying from may well have arranged for spaces outside their house to be reserved/parking bays suspended for their own removal van, so you could use that?

Yep you can get the usual parking arrangements suspended for removal vans.

Your council parking permit office will give you a temporary permit (2 weeks). We had exactly the same thing when we moved.

Our council also accepted a solicitor confirming exchange of contracts as proof of my new address and the permit was there when we completed (was posted tp the new address though. Our council doesn't give out visitor permits at all which is a pain.

We asked the people we bought from to leave us a couple of visitors permits

Years ago when we moved to an area woth residents parking the vendors left them for us.

exexpat · Yesterday 22:47

I don't know anywhere that has paper visitors' permits any more - it is all done online, and you need to specify times, registration numbers and so on, so vendors can't just leave them for you.

We still have paper permits and our vendors left us some. As others have said, this is a very common occurrence and the council will assist you in sorting out residents’ permits so that they are ready for moving day.
