Experiences of wooden or composite cladding for a 1970s house extension

Does anyone have wooden or wood effect composite cladding on a house and is willing to share experiences/ photos? We are extending a 1970s house which is brick built, and it will be difficult to match the existing brick. The architect had suggested charred black wooden cladding, but it's a bit too trendy and also quite heavy looking for the house. I like the natural wood/ cedar cladding, but apparently the wood weathers to grey over time, and I'd prefer it to stay the warm brown colour. The wood can be treated, but that requires maintenance. The alternative is composite cladding (effectively wood dust with polymer/ resin bonding, like composite decking), but I don't know how well that ages either. So I'm interested to hear any experiences either way

Hardie plank. Its maintenance free.

A local council built their offices which were clad in cedar. It looked lovely, and now it looks faded and unloved. I don’t like the look of composite wood cladding, in your situation I’d consider render.
