Soundproofing ideas?!

Probably a long shot but does anyone live in a ground floor maisonette? I have new neighbours moved in and omg the noise is just next level, like I can hear their kids running up and down screaming crying, even when im sat downstairs in my house it’s that loud (so over 2 floors) should I be able to hear this much? Im not complaining about kids I have kids myself and know they can be loud (though mine are older now so don’t run around screaming or shouting and if they did they’d be told to stop lol) but I’m more concerned about how poor the sound proofing is, can anything be done about the sound? Or some white noise recommendations anything really to drowned out the noise from above i just can’t listen to constant screaming and shouting all day before I go crazy 🤪 like I said not complaining about kids but need something to make the noise not so bad. Im thinking a white noise machine but haven’t used one before would that be loud enough to cover screaming? And banging? Dont want to spend loads so ideally something I can do cheaply

How awful for you. I've sound proofed two homes fairly successfully but I think yours will be harder because the noise is above you.

Before you source soundproofing could you talk to them about stopping your noise and to see if they have carpets or not. From my limited understanding soundproofing would be more effective their side under carpets. I would imagine you soundproofing your ceilings would be expensive.

No I haven’t spoken to them I haven’t actually seen them yet and tbh i am a wimp when it comes to confrontation or telling people their kids are too noisy so would rather just sort something my end even if it’s just something to cover the sounds like noise in my home thats less stressful

I would move.

Ideally they will add underlay and carpet which would deaden a lot of the noise.

Let's hope they don't want exposed wood or tiled floors.

It’s laminate but im asking what I can do as unfortunately I cannot make them buy carpets so is there anything I can do on my end. Like for example the boy upstairs is literally screaming his head off right now im downstairs and can hear it so I don’t think carpet would make much difference? So wondering what I can do on my end.
