Is Wickes decking any good, or are there better places to buy?

We are having a small area in our garden decked in a few weeks and the carpenter has suggested Wicks decking. Are they good? I just want plain boards treated but i'd rather pay a bit more for them to look nice - so if not Wicks, and you can suggest where to buy, that would be great

Personally, I'd never have decking - rats love gathering under it (best to have an access panel so you can put vermin traps down if necessary or just for checking the condition of the joists), you need to re-treat it regularly, and it can become incredibly slippy in wet weather (resulting in a broken wrist for me). Which is why, once my cast was off, I cut it all up and got shot of it.

However, if you do go for it, I'd recommend a local timber merchant if you have one. The quality of wood is generally better than the likes of Wickes and B&Q.

I wouldn't have it either.

Thanks both - we already have decking elsewhere in the garden. I'm happy with it - but sorry about your broken wrist. That sucks

Do you have a sawmill anywhere who can deliver? I buy direct from them in Stirling, and even small amounts they can deal with if you are flexible on delivery. They are better quality and cheaper when I have bought all sorts from decking to fences.

As above though, do you really want decking or would slabs / paving be better long term?
