Patio Quote - Reasonable?

Patioquestion · 12/04/2026 15:19

I’ve got a quote for a patio. I trust the builder but after chatting with a friend I think it might be quite high.
It’s approximately 5m x 3m. Includes digging out about 4m2 of concrete base that a greenhouse used to sit on, removing existing patio (lifting bricks rested in sand), preparing base, laying new Indian sandstone. Also includes removing a small tree, and all rubbish removal.

I’ve been quoted £5.7K. West Midlands, fairly expensive area. What do you think?

I had my patio done several years ago and paid £4k then so £5k today sounds great.

get more quotes though is always good practice

We’ve been quoted 5k for similar. Our neighbours had theirs done 4 years ago by the same landscaper for about £2400.

We’re going for it now as it’s only going to keep going up. I’d like a new drive and fence but I don’t see it ever happening now 🤷🏼‍♀️

I paid similar to get mine done. Don't forget legitimate trades have wages, NI,Tax, equipment, etc to pay, you are also paying for their skills.

ChatGPT shouldnt be used for checking builders quotes Ffs

yes it sounds about right - it’s incredibly labour intensive usually involving 2-3 people due to all the manhandling of materials. If you don’t want to pay it then you could do it yourself…..trust me you’ll wish you’d paid. I’ve done bits of patio laying where I extended mine and my god it’s hard work

Just to be clear, I have already agreed to go ahead with the quote and am happy to pay what is fair.

I totally agree that we all have different talents and we should be paid accordingly. I also work in a profession which is highly skilled, and we have to rectify things clients think they can do themselves, but can’t, all the time. Skilled work deserves the commensurate pay. Our fees have also gone up a lot in the last few years.

The use of ChatGPT was just for a quick check. I’ve come here for actual opinions and it appears the quote is in line with others’. So I’m satisfied to go ahead
